My profile picture background

There are many great and creative profile pictures on the forum, but their background is usually unknown.
Why is your profile picture the way it is? What does your profile picture symbolize?

For my profile picture, I chose Hannes Heikura’s photograph of Mika Myllylä training hard in Tervaneva. In the picture, Myllylä rushes forward with speed, even though the swamp has knee-deep water slowing down progress.

I chose the picture because it has intense physicality, and physical movement/exercise is an important part of my daily well-being. Myllylä’s conditions for progress are difficult, but despite that, he strives to continue. Similarly, in life and investing, even great difficulties can arise, but one should not let them discourage too much, but rather keep pushing forward.

I have a feeling that in this thread I can get away with saying very little, and the larger image tells you everything you need to know.

The giraffe’s neck, stretching towards the top right, symbolizes the wild upward trajectory of my portfolio. Stocks heading “northeast” and all that. The giraffe in the picture looks pleadingly, as if asking if someone could hit the brakes, because this steep slope is starting to feel scary.

(And the real story: the giraffe’s expression reflects my state of mind regarding the world of investing. I don’t know the first thing about anything, but I just showed up to have a look.)

Aarne Ankka “is a literature-loving, penniless Stockholmer who scathingly criticizes Swedish society and lifestyle, scrounges money from his friend Krille for beer, and tries to attract female company by posing as a misunderstood poet. Despite his unsympathetic traits, there is also a touch of the idealist and romantic in Aarne, which perhaps explains his poor adjustment to modern society.” (Wikipedia)

Sounds like a solid character.

I spent the first 4 years on the forum without a profile picture. I never found anything clever, creative, or somehow representative enough of myself.

Then this story came along https://www.sciencealert.com/astronomers-just-discovered-a-bear-on-mars and I just decided to grab a picture from it for myself without thinking much about it. Times were so bearish back then that a bear peeking out from the surface of Mars was very fitting for that moment. I’m fairly optimistic as an investor, but perhaps a bit of that quintessential Finnish pessimism fits my general brand. I just don’t tell anyone that I’m actually quite an optimist. I wear a bear mask and at the same time buy stocks when they are cheap. Or at least that’s what I try to convince myself…

I got those clip-on magnifying glasses for eyeglasses from my late grandmother back in the day when she had no use for them. I took them to work because at the time I occasionally had to solder surface-mount components onto circuit boards. Sometimes I noticed that you can take funny pictures of yourself while wearing them

Shinjuku-setä_feat_Orion-biiru_humalanvointia_rakentamassa

My profile picture features the Shinjuku man himself, with the face slightly stretched and the hairline pulled back, so the mug contains a kind of tuned facial feature product placement. In the original uncropped photo, Orion beer is also in the mix, so the picture includes a malty serving suggestion as well.

The photo itself was taken in Naha, the capital of Okinawa Prefecture, in a hotel room and fresh from the shower; if I recall correctly, it was the first evening and there was some fatigue due to jet lag, I think I’d been awake for something like 30 hours. Great trip, and Okinawa is calling again some winter!

A dreary gray has been chosen as the background for my profile picture; it likely reflects dullness, and the white letter J presumably symbolizes something.

Actually, that’s greenish (exact color code #b3bb9e), not far from the background color of a dollar bill! :moneybag:

Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks. Almost always positive and encouraging to others. It’s a small picture, but he’s giving you all a thumbs up even now. And drink some coffee—or tea is fine too—if you’re feeling down because of bad stock picks. It’ll be alright. Besides, the world would be a better place if the gap between the poor and the rich wasn’t so large. Keep up the stock picking; you’re narrowing wealth gaps by destroying your wealth in stocks.

Olli Pulla, a baker’s son, Black Peter from the playing cards. A braided cardamom loaf (pullapitko) in one hand and books in the other. Moving forward with a positive mindset.

The 8-bit monster in my profile picture is related to Pochi from the NES game Legacy of the Wizard. The game was originally released in Japan in 1987 and is part of the Dragon Slayer series.

Pochi is the family’s pet monster and one of the five playable characters. However, my profile picture doesn’t feature Pochi himself, but rather one of his relatives, which is noticeable from the different coloring.

I like computer games and I think the little monster is endearing, despite its fierce expression!

There had been some smirking on the forum about Mark Minervini’s Upstart blunder, so I decided to defend the man’s honor by taking a screenshot of the interview in question for my profile.

In my profile picture, Fallout Boy is giving a thumbs up for future successes.
I haven’t had time to play Bethesda’s games for years, but hopefully there’s still some time left for that kind of messing around :sunglasses:

Could Rimapoika’s answer be related to the use of the Sultan brand? From what I recall (way back in my youth, the brand’s logo was something like that).
