Telia Company - Thread

No thread for Telia was found yet, so I started one here.

They have been actively looking for an acquisition target for their cash. There has been discussion about acquiring Bonnier, but now something concrete has actually been bought.

The competitive gaming world is buzzing – Telia bought Assembly

An interesting expansion. E-sports is big business; from a content perspective, it doesn’t sound entirely crazy at first glance.

Meanwhile, Mikael linked on Twitter that operators globally have been rapidly cutting jobs and improving efficiency. http://www.lightreading.com/business-employment/jobs/big-telcos-have-slashed-107k-jobs-since-2015/d/d-id/743765?page_number=1

Telia’s good result and interesting content conquests Telian Bonnier-kauppa varmistui - Inderes

One could almost guess that in 10 years, operators will be talked about more as content producers than “operators.”

It just looks like the Swedish government is sanding Telia’s path  Apparently, the expectation of an even better quarterly result was baked into Telia’s share price, as the share price seems to be dipping even though the quarterly report looked reasonably good to me. You can’t always understand the mindset of major investors.

Negative pressure in the carrier business even though more data is moving in the world than ever before.

Good point from Verner. Operators becoming content producers. What do you think Elisa and DNA’s response to this will be? Will we see more acquisitions in the industry, perhaps Sanoma’s TV business being bought out? It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

It just occurred to me that Yle showed those Assembly LANs that Telia bought for themselves, and now that Telia is buying MTV, what if they show esports there, the sport of the future? There’s an opportunity to get targeted advertising for the younger generation. Or would they sell the broadcasting rights to Yle? I mean, Assembly has always had tournaments that they show.

Apple may release eSIM today, making carriers sweat:

“One fun thing Apple may announce is a thing called an eSIM – essentially, an easy way to switch cell-phone carriers without having to be locked down by their annoying sim cards. Even if Apple doesn’t roll this out tomorrow, the spread of eSIMs is inevitable. And that will push carriers such as AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. “further down the path to becoming little more than utilities.” And interchangeable utilities may have a harder time socking you with enormous bills. Which would be just terrible.”

“The telecom sector globally is led by aging white men in grey suits whose main vision is to make it safely through the next quarterly earnings update”

Do operators have enough imagination to renew themselves? The industry is begging for a little disruption:ogre:

DNA’s Leinonen commented in an interview that DNA is “pro eSIM.” eSIMs could intensify competition as switching subscriptions becomes even easier.

Hi, have forum members received Telia’s dividends in their accounts? The dividend payment date was yesterday, October 25, 2018, or has the payment date changed? Last time, the dividends were credited to the account on the payment date.

doesn’t seem to have arrived in the account yet

E: Arrived during the day

Today, the Telia dividend has landed in my Nordea account.

Looks like it clicked. That’s a good thing

Dividends in the account. At the same time, Standard & Poor’s downgraded Telia’s credit rating from A- to BBB+, and Barclays Capital lowered its target price from SEK 40 to SEK 38.

Let’s link Telia’s share buyback program here for safekeeping :slightly_smiling_face:

Telia has bought back approx. 2.5% of its share capital since the buyback program began. The link above updates automatically  On Friday, we’ll see if the dividend increases – for example, to SEK 2.35 per share – which would be the same total dividend amount from Telia’s cash as last time, SEK 2.3 – thanks to the share buyback :+1:

Does anyone have thoughts on how the Swedish state’s possible sale of Telia would affect Telia? Is there any interest from activists (Gardell, etc.)?

In Sweden, the Sverigedemokraterna (Sweden Democrats) are enthusiastically advocating for selling off a significant portion of Telia. I have a small bundle of Telia in my portfolio, which was originally intended to be “forever.” If the world’s most boring Telia is now transforming into something else through the Bonnier deals and the reduction in state ownership, I will have to re-evaluate this.

Are you working at Kauppalehti?

We’ll see, didn’t Gardell say he’s investing in three or four companies now? One of them was Nordea and the others aren’t known yet, are they? (Or am I remembering wrong?)

:grinning: Oh, whoops. It might indeed seem a bit suspicious. I don’t work for Kauppalehti, but thanks to them for the answer.
