Many look at that text with horror and wonder if the novice investor is going to take a position in Sofi bank. ![]()
I cannot comment on the risks and threats. My investment strategy is based on buying growth companies when they are cheap, risky, and no one believes in them. For example, Sofi bank was an easy target a year ago: the bank was priced at the same level as âdinosaur banksâ, even though Sofi had long been a growing bank, progressing towards profitability in its business.
Now I am practically âmarriedâ to these shares, as selling would realize huge taxes (average price around $5.6). At current prices, I would not add to my position, but I would not sell either. My investment strategy would not allow buying Sofi now, because the valuation multiples have risen too high, but that also doesnât mean Iâm bearish.
Currently, for example, there are more attractive investment targets in health insurance companies. The growing health insurance company Oscar is priced at the same level as âdinosaur health insurersâ. It feels like its pricing is similar to Sofi bank a year ago, when it traded around 6 euros. Another is Zeta, whose recently published short report priced it quite nicely. Now it has already run up a bit after good results. Root is also priced very reasonably, but Iâm still waiting before adding.
I note that a large part of my money is in index funds. Thatâs why I would never buy anything on the stock side where I donât see at least a 50% increase. This also means that I can take a hit on individual stocks without it significantly affecting my portfolio.

I have also been watching and researching Cadeler AS, a wind turbine installer, for a long time, but the high costs of offshore wind power are concerning. It could be the Golar of offshore wind, but state-subsidized parks (guaranteed feed-in tariffs) seem very risky. Of course, China is also building offshore wind power, and in that country, pragmatism, not ideology, drives the economy, so perhaps the industry has a future. It will probably be the same with Cadeler as with NBIS, which was under observation already at $20, but I just missed that boat too. ![]()
SijoittajaAlokas does commendable work with these foreign company threads. Regarding the health insurance company mentioned above, could we get a thread on Oscar Health, the health insurer?
It no longer directly related to Sofi, so I put it in a different thread.
