As a relatively new investor, I encountered a challenge related to investment literature – I would be eager to buy and read investment literature, but finding used literature seems difficult, and buying new books would effectively deplete my cash reserves. On the other hand, the situation could also be that investment literature has been on the bookshelf for several years, which one has already read multiple times and no longer feels they need.
For these two types of situations, for example, I thought of creating a new thread for buying, selling, exchanging, and giving away investment literature.
So, you can post in this thread if you are looking for some investment literature or if you would like to part with some of your own.
Is something like this considered necessary and suitable for the forum? The administration may remove it if it seems unsuitable here.
Yes, I could imagine there being a demand for this thread, and I myself bought used investment books just last week.
A tip for other beginners as well: at least Helmet has a surprisingly wide selection of investment books if you know what to look for.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea if one could also give tips here to others about where to find a book someone else is looking for, or about possible campaigns or sales if one doesn’t have the literature oneself. I myself feel that there could be a need for such a thread, but let’s see how this develops.
Indeed, Helmet is very comprehensive, and it’s also worth using Helmet’s Libby e-book and audiobook service, for example, on your phone. I’ve used it during the corona period when libraries have been somewhat poorly open. Many good books, including investment books. Just last week, I thought I saw that Aswath Damodaran’s Narrative and Numbers had been added there.
As a tip, I was pleasantly surprised by the e-book and audiobook selection in the Nextory service. At least in the early stages, Saario’s Börsbibeln (Pörssiraamattu), Sijoittajaksi 7 päivässä (Become an investor in 7 days), Lynch’s One Up on Wall Street, Learn to Earn, and Beating the Street, among others, could be suitable.
I’ve been trying to find Saarion’s books in physical print, but they’re probably the kind that would work well as audiobooks. A quick search didn’t show “Pörssiraamattu” (Stock Market Bible) on BookBeat, but I could definitely listen to it during the trial period.
One tip for those living in the Helsinki metropolitan area is Aalto University Library, where anyone can get a library card (or any other academic library in your municipality). It’s more academic stuff, of course, but you can also find classics starting from The Intelligent Investor, etc.
Edit. Thanks for that Libby database from Helmet, @Tyhjatasku was a new acquaintance.
I’m looking for the book Bhimani et al. Management and Cost Accounting, preferably the 6th or 7th edition. If anyone happens to have it lying around, I’d be willing to buy it.
I have the book “50 Most Dangerous Companies” (50 vaarallisinta yhtiötä) available in Tampere if anyone wants to buy it or trade it for another book on this topic.
