Elisa - In the wake of 5G?

Hi everyone in this thread!

Have you given more thought to that AI setup involving Elisa, Nvidia, and Nokia that was in the news about a week ago?

In Berlin, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang stated pretty bluntly that going forward, a large share of AI computing will shift to telecom operators’ cell towers and equipment facilities. The logic is quite simple: operators already have power and fiber deployed all over the place. Once that equipment is upgraded with new, more powerful chips, you get an insane amount of computing power deployed right near the end user without needing to build new, expensive grid connections.

Is this genuinely an opportunity for Elisa to generate new revenue by selling local AI compute to enterprises?

Another thing I’ve been wondering about is all these conventional data centers planned for Finland. If computing ends up being split between mega-sized AI factories on one hand and this cheap, sort of “near-edge compute” (or whatever you want to call it?) at telco sites on the other, does that mean market structures will shift over time?

Has anyone dug deeper into this? I’m no engineer myself, but I’m really curious about how existing telecom infrastructure ties into AI and new infrastructure builds.
