Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees Dario and Daniela Amodei, Anthropic is a leading AI company. Claude, the brand name for Anthropic’s AI offerings, is “built for problem solvers” and helps its users “tackle complex challenges, analyze data, write code, and think through their most difficult work.” Unlike OpenAI’s “ChatGPT” AI model, the vast majority of Anthropic’s revenue comes from enterprise contracts. Companies use Claude for critical workflows such as financial data analysis, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance.
Companies prefer Claude for its “agentic capabilities,” which allow the AI to perform tasks independently. At the same time, unlike other AI models, Claude primarily attracts enterprise customers with large capital reserves who tend to be “stickier” clients. Revenue has grown 80-fold in a year. The company remains heavily loss-making and estimates it will not turn a profit until 2028.
Anthropic is currently unlisted, but several public companies (and their shareholders) benefit from its success, including:
Alphabet: According to reports, Google owns approximately 14% of Anthropic.
SK Telecom: The South Korean telecom giant was one of the early investors in 2023 (SKM invested $100 million in Anthropic).
NVIDIA: The chip giant invested $10 billion in the February 2026 funding round. In addition to the investment, NVDA benefits from Anthropic’s computing demand.
Amazon: Amazon committed to investing up to $8 billion in Anthropic late last year. Additionally, Amazon is Anthropic’s cloud partner. Ownership is estimated at ~15–19%.
Microsoft participated in Anthropic’s major funding rounds in 2025–2026. Reports indicate the investment size was approximately $5 billion USD.
Zoom: Zoom was an early Series C investor in Anthropic.
Reuters reported as early as December 2025 that Anthropic had hired the law firm Wilson Sonsini to prepare for a potential IPO “as early as 2026.” At the same time, the company itself stated that no decision regarding an IPO had been made yet.
However, as investors, we must consider that at the current rate, Anthropic’s insane growth might mean the company could soon run out of “intelligence.” ![]()
Good luck!
