Six-figure portfolios - Where's the money from?

I have been pondering the question in the title and now I dared to open a thread about the topic.

I have been reading many forum threads and wondering. Many have incredibly large portfolios in terms of euros. From tens to even hundreds of thousands. A great thing in itself and congratulations to you!

What I wonder is, where did you get your initial capital? There are surely many kinds of stories. Someone has set aside money from their salary for years, decades. Someone has probably put inheritance money to work? Is there anyone here who has managed to grow their portfolio to tens of thousands, for example, as a monthly saver in funds? Or has there been such legendary luck (skill) that a thousand-euro investment rocketed to ten thousand.

My own portfolio has grown from zero to a couple of thousand in 8 months. So if I continue in the same way, I would also have a ten-thousand-euro portfolio in 3-5 years, IF things go even remotely that way. Still, I wonder about, for example, the posts in the “I bought/sold” thread, where people say they have bought and sold for thousands. Of course, anyone can write whatever they want online. -I bought 5000 shares of Nokia. I don’t believe many people bother to talk nonsense for fun, so I assume they are mostly true.

I play with tens and hundreds. With what I can set aside from my salary.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not jealous in that way, or feel that things are somehow wrong, unfair, etc. No. That’s not what this is about. It’s about genuine curiosity and wonder.

How did you specifically build a portfolio of tens of thousands, or a million? Did you start from zero? Did you take an investment loan? Did you play with inheritance?
