Setting up that GMP line at a CDMO facility certainly makes sense. Biological compounds in aqueous solutions generally require cold chain storage. Therefore, locating production and nanoformulation in the same facilities reduces issues related to storage and transport.
I browsed through the presentation slides again. This section on the commercial overview slide caught my eye.
At the moment, it feels like that nanoformulation of biological compounds is going to be the thing most likely to become the company’s biggest hit in the future. It’s just still at a very early stage. There are also some really significant practical advantages to the nanoformulation of these biomolecules if they enable home administration of drugs via subcutaneous injection, instead of every dose requiring a hospital visit and an IV drip.
edit: An additional comment in the webcast regarding the placement of the bio-line at the CDMO facility was that it makes it easier to produce the compound there under aseptic conditions, which are not required for small-molecule compounds.
