Merus Power - Power quality, storage and more

Merus Power will supply a Merus® STATCOM compensator to Siemens Mobility Denmark. Siemens Mobility is one of the world’s leading providers of rolling stock, infrastructure, services, and digital solutions for rail transport. The compensator will be used to manage power quality at a charging station for battery-powered trains. This delivery strengthens Merus Power’s position as a provider of demanding power quality solutions for rail transport and transport electrification, supporting the company’s strategy.

Charging infrastructure for battery-powered trains is a new and interesting power quality application for Merus Power. Electrifying transport can significantly reduce CO₂ emissions from traffic, but high-power charging places new demands on the power grid. The Merus® STATCOM compensator helps keep the grid stable and power quality consistent even when charging loads the grid rapidly and heavily.

The deal supports Merus Power’s strategy to grow as a provider of power system solutions required by the energy transition and electrification. Power quality solutions are a strategically important business area for the company, strengthening Merus’s technological position in demanding industrial, infrastructure, and grid environments, while bringing stability to the company’s business alongside the growth of energy storage systems.

Typically, the price of a compensator of this size and scope of delivery is approximately 2 million euros. The system will be delivered during 2027, with commissioning taking place as the project progresses during 2028.
