Merus Power has signed a contract with Savon Voima Oy for a 5 MW/10 MWh electricity storage system. Merus Power’s delivery is valued at over 2 million euros. The electricity storage system will be delivered to Juankoski, Kuopio, at the beginning of 2027. The companies also intend to enter into a comprehensive service and maintenance agreement.
The electricity storage system will be built in the immediate vicinity of the Juankoski hydropower plant in a historical factory area. Merus Power is responsible for the equipment delivery, installation, testing, and commissioning of the electricity storage system in the project.
Designed for market use, the electricity storage system is also capable of so-called black start. This means that the electricity storage system has the ability to restore the electricity grid to operation after a power outage. Savon Voima also has plans to develop the overall system in the future in conjunction with the adjacent Juankoski hydropower plant.
