Uncle Masse’s already legendary Christmas, February, and May Day riddles (see threads with the keyword “riddle”) are getting a sequel by popular demand! During holidays and festive breaks, the congregation tends to lapse into boredom, so Uncle Masse has felt an ethical-moral obligation to entertain the moneyed folk and simultaneously keep the people hooked on both Masse and the “masse” (cash).
Previous riddles dealt with the worlds of finance and sports and included a devilish multiple-choice question. This time, no options are offered, but the congregation can start brainstorming during the long holidays. The question is: “Everyone in the industry is familiar with the concept of a Dead Cat Bounce, i.e., a temporary, sentimental rise in a stock price until the bounce ends and the price quickly fades back to its starting level. But what would be a suitable name for the opposite phenomenon—when a price suddenly drops without a clear reason and then quickly bounces back?”
Suggestions can be submitted for the first time on Midsummer Eve, and the game remains open until Sunday evening. You can start thinking of your suggestion right away, but only one suggestion per forum member, and it must not be published before Midsummer Eve.
Uncle already has his own suggestion, but it will be revealed only on Sunday evening…
Uncle Masse, FA, somewhat unexpectedly also a professional in quality entertainment
Great! A lot of great suggestions have already come in, but none of them, in Uncle Masse’s opinion, fully and exhaustively describe the inverse phenomenon to the Dead Cat Bounce. Keep brainstorming and sending in suggestions!
The game is open until tomorrow evening, i.e., Sunday evening.
Uncle Masse, FA, also takes care of investors’ well-being
This might be a bit of a trick question, because besides the cat, a dog is also involved. The situation is that Garfield kicks Odie off the table, and Odie always climbs back up, though no one knows why. This is a lesser-known stock market phenomenon called the KKK phenomenon (Kicking the Crafty Cat).
Alright, dear parishioners. Time to check the suggestion tally. There were some absolutely wonderful suggestions for the inverse phenomenon of the KKP, or Dead Cat Bounce, but Uncle Masse doesn’t think any of them fully described the phenomenon in question, i.e., when a course suddenly drops based on sentiment, hits bottom, and then comes back strong.
Following Uncle Masse’s train of thought on this tricky problem was a new aspirant to the congregation, Alwar, with a funny suggestion: EKP, or Living Cat Drop. Alwar is the number one in the competition! But he doesn’t get a full ten, because the cat’s ascent remains a bit unclear. Uncle Masse’s own suggestion is EKKP, or Living Cat Pit Drop. So, when someone drops a living (agile) cat into a pit, it will rebound strongly once its paws hit the bottom
So now we have the KKP, approved by Nalle and widely used, and its inverse phenomenon, this new EKKP! It remains to be seen whether EKKP will catch on and become widely used in investor circles. This would be a dream come true for Uncle Masse, but you can’t have everything in life - not even with Masse’s help.
