The company’s earnings report is on Feb 9. At least in connection with this press release, they didn’t mention that the targets set for 2022 hadn’t been met. Does this inspire confidence? One could at least assume they’ve gotten close.

A bit of a double-edged sword for Bloom regarding Oregon:

https://www.oregonlive.com/silicon-forest/2023/02/amazon-fuel-cells-would-use-natural-gas-to-power-oregon-data-centers-increasing-carbon-footprint.html

The excellent news is that Amazon has chosen Bloom specifically to supply Energy Servers (fuel cells) for its data centers in Oregon and potentially elsewhere.

But in this case, a storm in a teacup has arisen because Amazon intends to use natural gas as fuel (and lay new pipelines in Oregon), and they have no documented plan to switch to hydrogen.

Well, anything could happen here, but the main thing right now is that Bloom’s offering is good enough for Amazon. And if it’s good enough for Ama, then we’ll likely see these more widely across all markets soon.

Later tonight, we’ll be waiting in suspense (celebrating) Bloom’s financial results :eyes:

The way I see it, Amazon is ready for hydrogen use through Bloom’s equipment. It’s then up to the politicians to pressure the company to use something other than natural gas in them.

By the way, Griffiths, a member of the company’s management, hasn’t sold his shares before the earnings report this time, so at least in principle, that bodes well for the results. He’s often on the ball, as I’ve written before.

Bloom Energy (NYSE:BE) has released its newest application to further enhance the efficiency of its Bloom Energy Server™ to serve customers in markets facing growing energy demand but constrained power grids and ambitious climate goals. The Bloom platform can now be ordered by customers with the compatibility to support Combined Heat and Power (CHP), increasing system efficiency and improving economics.

“Compared to older technologies including combustion engines, the Bloom Energy Server has one of the highest electrical efficiencies in the industry. By adding Heat Capture, the system efficiency is currently in the mid-80% range, with the potential roadmap that can increase the CHP efficiency to 90%,” said Ravi Prasher, Chief Technology Officer, Bloom Energy. “This is another example of our ongoing investment in research and development to provide low-carbon, energy solutions.”

The CHP compatible energy platform enhances Bloom’s value proposition in support of its international expansion plans, especially in Europe. The EU offers tax credits for repurposing CHP systems to address energy constraints and support climate goals. Some typical applications for the CHP systems include industrial boilers, central heating, district heating and process water and cooling. Bloom’s first CHP compatible platform will be delivered this summer to a customer in Italy.

Bloom Energy is a world leader in solid oxide fuel cells. Its energy server is designed with the philosophy of using every input as efficiently as possible. CHP is a system that produces electricity and thermal energy, using a range of technologies and fuels most typically with combustion engines. With on-site production, losses are minimized and heat that would otherwise be wasted is applied to facility loads in the form of process heating, hot water, or even chilled water.

For me, the result was quite a disappointment and I expected the share price to clearly slump; that’s where it headed, but it recovered to a slight gain. These hydrogen companies’ results are certainly still at least a few years away. I’m in this with a moderate stake, as well as in Plug for several years now. Pointless post, sorry about that.

Meripuoli etenee:

In their first major marine deployment, Bloom Energy (NYSE:BE) fuel cells demonstrated a significant increase in electrical efficiency on a luxury cruise ship built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique (CdA). Bloom and CdA have also announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on developing future multi-MW installations on board marine vessels.

The 150kW solid oxide fuel cell platform provided auxiliary power to the ship, the MSC World Europa operated by MSC Cruises, while in port using liquefied natural gas (LNG), one of the cleanest marine fuels available. The MSC World Europa was docked in Qatar in November and December for the 2022 World Cup.

The Bloom Energy Server™ demonstrated 60% electrical efficiency while the ship was in port, a significant improvement over existing high-efficiency power systems, as well as a reduction of carbon emissions by 30% with no methane slippage. Lower carbon emissions and higher efficiency will be critical to ship operators while their vessels are in port.

“Bloom Energy fuel cells have shown their effectiveness in decarbonizing land-based industries,” said Suminder Singh, senior director, marine, for Bloom Energy. “With the deployment by Chantiers de l’Atlantique, we have now proven that they will be effective in decarbonizing shipping, both in port and on the high seas.”

“We are firmly committed to leading the shipbuilding industry in its transition to a more environmentally friendly future,” said Laurent Castaing, general manager, Chantiers de l’Atlantique. “The in-port performance of Bloom Energy’s fuel cells shows that we have charted the right course to making this a reality. We look forward to having Bloom Energy on board for the future.”

Using Bloom fuel cells for so-called hoteling power sharply reduces in-port pollution, an important step towards the goal of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to reduce shipping’s greenhouse gas emissions by half compared to 2008 levels. Bloom’s future-proof platform is IMO 2040- and 2050-ready, with the ability to operate on LNG, blended hydrogen, ammonia, and hydrogen. The Energy Server platform has passed two critical safety reviews, the American Bureau of Shipping’s New Technology Qualification Process and Bureau Veritas.

While the MSC installation was geared towards proving the efficacy of Bloom system’s in-port operations, the fuel cells, which had undergone rigorous tilt-table testing, also achieved full power output during the vessel’s maiden voyage between Saint-Nazaire and Qatar while in the Mediterranean Sea.

Growth was surprisingly strong and the results were pretty much in line with expectations. What was also good was the confirmation of the outlook for the rest of the year, meaning that positive operating cash flow is being targeted with a revenue of approximately 1.5 billion. The share price held up reasonably well until the news of the capital raise broke, resulting in a 20% dip for this one too, sending the P/S ratio well below two.

Investor conference in a week:

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bloom-energy-host-investor-conference-165900844.html

Hopefully, we will get more clarity regarding the financing arrangement as well as information about new investors and/or potential partners.

‘‘The executives will offer updates on Bloom’s aggressive multiyear growth strategy, its international expansion, and plans for meeting the rising global demand for hydrogen. They will highlight how world trends are making Bloom’s value proposition—reliability, predictability and sustainability—resonate ever more widely. They will discuss how the grid’s inability to meet business needs, particularly in the data center industry, is creating opportunities for Bloom, and they will also highlight new developments in Bloom’s power generation and hydrogen production solutions.’’

Well, let’s include this too:

Pink hydrogen may well become a very significant part of the hydrogen economy, and Bloom’s electrolyzer type fits this application well.

With SK Ecoplant, many other opportunities are opening up for Bloom around the world. Yesterday, SK announced it is joining a billion-dollar project in Canada.

Plug and SK also have a joint venture.

Confirmation was also received from Bloom that they are involved in that aforementioned Canadian mega-project:

If all goes well, Plug will get to supply the PEM-type electrolyzers.

Still no recording from the investor conference, but based on the slides, it looks quite good.

Let’s also include a short plug from “Uncle” Navellier:

The guy is an oil bull, so it’s quite an interesting stance from him. Bloom, after all, is easier for “fossilists” to tolerate than Plug, as its energy servers also run on natural gas.

The recording of the investor conference has now been posted on Bloom’s website and can be found at the following link:

It’s a three-hour session with a lot of content. If you don’t have time to listen to the whole thing, you should at least listen to the Q&A section at the end, which includes many good questions and information regarding, among other things, data centers and the work the company does to convince customers of the viability of their technology. I also got an answer as to why it feels like there are no other companies in the SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) space, unlike in the alkaline and PEM sectors. SOFC is newer technology, and Bloom is a pioneer in it. So there isn’t the same kind of competition at the moment, and there certainly won’t be for a while. And if Bloom can make the business profitable and thus become a preferred partner for customers, this could turn into something big.

Otherwise, the conference had plenty of good information, for example, on hydrogen produced with nuclear power, where Bloom has joint ventures not only in the US but also with SK Ecoplant, which I hadn’t remembered. I also received more information regarding waste-to-energy, and I wish Neste would contact Bloom to make the production of renewable fuel more ecological than before. By the way, is there a company representative in the Neste Inderes thread who could be tipped off about this?
