I thought I’d start a thread like this, as it seems there’s knowledge and investments in these companies on the forum.
I’ve been following Voxeljet (VJET) for a couple of weeks, and today its target price rose significantly in one day (approx. +35%).
On the other hand, it also seems that almost all larger companies have risen by 20-80% in about 3 hours today. I’m curious if anyone has any idea why?
Some companies in the 3D printing sector have suffered heavily due to the coronavirus (especially printer manufacturers) and their stock prices have fallen sharply. I have Stratasys in my portfolio, which has been one of these sufferers, and today its stock price is strongly rising, almost at 30%. There might be a bit of general 3D excitement involved, but the strong rises of Stratasys, Voxeljet, 3D Systems, etc., compared to other players, might suggest that perhaps now these most affected companies are being corrected upwards, as the outlook seems brighter for now. Even for Stratasys, it’s noticeable that despite strong increases, the 2019 peaks have not been surpassed.
This was the hottest trend a few years back. It was supposed to revolutionize almost everything, and valuations were sky-high. The rest is history, and it’s actually a very timely topic when you look at what’s happening in the markets yet again.
Some companies will likely survive and start consolidating the industry once the worst of the rush is over. I should almost look into it more closely again.
It’s great that you’ve taken the time to research these companies and share information here. Updating and adding information is a good idea, but I would recommend updating and correcting your first post, where you started listing companies and information, so that the thread doesn’t get unnecessarily filled with the same information.
Highlighting company-specific differences with such a list is a good way to clarify both for yourself and for others the industry landscape and to bring out the strengths/expertise of different players. However, I would recommend perhaps choosing the information a bit more carefully and also verifying its accuracy.
You have written that Voxeljet is the only one that can print ceramic objects. I don’t know what you base this claim on? However, this is not true. With a Google search using some of the most relevant keywords “3D printing”, “ceramic”, etc. you will find e.g.:
It’s also worth looking for company-specific information, e.g., in the field of ceramic printing. For example, 3D Systems (I chose this because it’s a familiar company to you) is not out of the game in this field either. A Google search with the words “3D systems ceramic printing” brings up, for example, the following article from 3D Systems’ own pages:
You are probably referring to the news below. In this case, too, the wording of the presented matter might be in order. Is the core issue here “the world’s largest” or does Voxeljet have a significant advantage over other manufacturers as a result? Do you know if “the world’s largest” still applies in 2020? How big is the size difference when comparing the device to competitors’ own, and is this significant or is it just a single “trivia fact”?
Unfortunately, I haven’t delved into this (at least not yet) and you’ve probably read more about printing such molds → So if you have information, by all means write it, but formulate it so that even those unfamiliar with the matter can get an idea of how relevant and significant the matter possibly is, would be essential . I don’t mean that you should write a lot of text, but for example, “Pioneer in sand mold printing” or a mention of a significant leading position in that field gives me a completely different picture - if the matter is actually true.
(By the way, regarding the manufacture of casting molds, I found an interesting thesis in which Voxeljet is mentioned, especially concerning sand molds!)

For example, Thermoplastic Polyurethanes (TPU) may not be worth mentioning specifically for Voxeljet, because the same applies to other manufacturers? Searching company-specifically, you’ll find articles and information related to this quite quickly, e.g., for Stratasys and 3D Systems as well.
Edit.A slight clarification to the above, as I accidentally separated only the TPU, even though you had added HSS (high speed sintering, which is probably the Finnish term for this “fast sintering”) to the beginning. My apologies for my carelessness! Speed and this “rapid manufacturing” seem to be an area in the industry that many companies focus on. For example, Stratasys has also been aware and interested in this Stratasys increases stake in Xaar 3D to 45% and eyes complete takeover I’m not entirely sure if Voxeljet is in a significantly different position in this regard compared to others. However, it is clearly an area and technology they have already been involved with and have expertise in.
Listing customers is a plus, and it’s nice for me to see the names at a glance I would probably look for up-to-date information related to indebtedness elsewhere (outside this list) or create a current discussion about it? In my opinion, such a list has the potential to be a comprehensive information package at the beginning of the thread for new investors who may find the thread much later.

Does the company not compete directly with others in these “certain printing methods” when only HP is mentioned? / Why only HP?
What exactly are these “certain printing methods”?
The purpose is by no means to be difficult, critical, or anything similar! I appreciate that you spend your time on this, especially since there has been relatively little discussion about 3D printing on the forum . I just fear that some of the information you write may not benefit forum members, and the updating in the form of new posts mentioned at the beginning may soon also be perceived as disruptive to the thread.
I personally find the industry interesting and predict this will be a future trend that has not yet broken through. The past has seen hype and bubbles in this area, and it is very understandable that 3D printing has not been one of the most interesting fields in recent years. However, many signs are beginning to show that this will become more common.

ARK Invest’s weekly review of the week’s risers and fallers sometimes highlights good current events concerning these 3D printing companies, especially since they have been on the rise recently. The “Stock Commentaries” emails can be subscribed to for free via the link below (Advisor Updates), if I remember correctly. They arrive in your email between Friday and Saturday night. This week, Nano Dimension and Stratasys were mentioned.
21% Nano Dimension appreciated more than 21% on Wednesday after pricing a secondary offering. Nano Dimension is a leader in 3D printed high performance electronic devices. On Tuesday Nano Dimension was granted a new patent for rigid-flexible printed circuit board fabrication using inkjet printing.
Stratasys (SSYS)
16% Stratasys appreciated 16% on Thursday after 3D Systems announced that it would report an upside surprise in fourth quarter revenues and earnings, suggesting that the 3D printing industry is gaining traction in the recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. Moreover, during a presentation at the Needham Growth Conference, Stratasys announced that it expects to report sequential revenue growth for the fourth quarter. Management emphasized that COVID-19 has created supply chain vulnerabilities that 3D printing is well-suited to address.
I’m curious to hear your opinions on the merger of Desktop Metal and exOne. DM acquired one of its most significant competitors, and I see this as a pretty good opportunity to add more stock to the portfolio. Together, they can offer a very interesting package to the industry. They have patents and printing materials to spare…
There was an article in Helsingin Sanomat about medical 3D printing. The picture shows an EnvisionTEC device. EnvisionTEC also seems to be a subsidiary of Desktop Metal, which was mentioned in the previous post.
Stratasys exceeded earnings forecasts, but unfortunately, this year’s outlook fell short of expectations. Revenue met forecasts, but still decreased slightly from the previous year. On the other hand, the company expects better cash flow and ended the year with a strong balance sheet, free of debt.
This year’s revenue and profitability forecasts point to fairly moderate growth and thus fell short of analyst expectations.
