USA thread (former name USA Presidential Elections 2024)

Isn’t kompromat - or an internal family grip on the balls - by definition an obvious reason to act as ordered? Even Medvedev was forced to dance as president to Putin’s dick’s tune. Anything moves in the desired direction if the lever is big enough.

Perhaps it’s worth listening to others besides the lying Trump. The Constitution also prevents such trickery:

"the 12th amendment, which was ratified in 1804, says “no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of president shall be eligible to that of vice-president of the United States.”
This means that because Mr Trump is not able to be president in 2028, he also cannot be vice president"

Of course, if laws are forgotten, anything is possible. I still find it unlikely that Americans would abandon the Constitution for the narcissism of one old man.

On Bill Maher’s show, one of these Trump influencers visited a couple of weeks ago and made it clear that Trump is seeking a third term. They are already exploring “dozens of different ways” with a rather large team. The constitution can be changed or interpreted around, or however he explained it.

So they have a real team planning solely how Trump can get a third term. It tells the essential truth that this hasn’t been bullshit from them for a long time. They are serious about it, and the process has been underway for quite some time.

Edit: there are indeed clips of it on YouTube, and the guy was Steve Bannon:

The plot of the Civil War movie from a couple of years ago is starting to sound too much like current reality:

What happens then if the basic law is simply bypassed by Trump? The man should be removed from his perch with force if necessary. And what about the few million brainwashed cultists, how will they react to their god-king’s third term being thwarted?

Certainly, for those willing to push boundaries, there are unfortunately many approaches, starting from the wording of the constitution combined with, for example, the theoretical orders of succession in the constitution and the composition of the Supreme Court at that particular time. It’s certainly better to just hope that clearly better alternatives win and/or time does its job regarding Trump.

"Toward the end of the interview, TIME asks Trump whether he agrees with John Adams, a founder whose portrait he has framed in gold on his wall, who said the American republic was “a government of laws, not of men.” The President pauses to think it through. “I wouldn’t agree with it 100%,” he says. “We are a government where men are involved in the process of law, and ideally, you’re going to have honest men like me.”

Erinomainen, syväluotaava ja kylmäävä tuo Timen haastattelu, kannattaa lukea!

As a companion to that article, I recommend this direct transcript of the interview in question. Perhaps even starker in its entirety:

Perhaps the time is soon ripe for California to secede from the federation
They could even join Canada, if the societal structure as an independent state wasn’t stable enough.

That would be quite pleasant then, if somehow this occasionally floated utopia of some kind of alliance between Canada and the EU would also materialize. That would then start to have enough geopolitical and economic muscle, so that Trump could be left alone in the sandbox making mud pies.

Do you think it’s wrong to prevent authoritative bodies from committing a crime (in this case, hiding an illegal immigrant)? Far from fascism, this sounds like democracy to me. What other illegalities do you think should be allowed?

Numbers in TheHill article. Fortunately, only 13% approve of the president defying court orders. These people are true believers and nothing Trump does can be wrong.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll that asked whether the president should obey court orders with which he disagrees found respondents answering overwhelmingly in the affirmative — 83 percent to 13 percent. Seventy-three percent of Republicans in this poll believed Trump should comply with court orders in that scenario.

Trumpilla huonoimmat istuvan presidentin luvut sitten Eisenhowerin

Trump’s 41% approval rating is the lowest for any newly elected president at 100 days dating back at least to Dwight Eisenhower – including Trump’s own first term.

Two questions arise:

  1. Didn’t people learn from Trump’s first term? At the 100-day mark, his approval was 44%, which was not much better than it is now.
  2. How on earth can the approval still be 41%?

Apparently, Trump has also read the results of the opinion polls. When the results are not pleasing, it’s “fake news”, “the media are the enemy of society” and so on:

A hostile and political act by Jeff Bezos / Amazon, says Trump through his Peskov. The intention is thus to inform about product tariffs as part of pricing.

It will be interesting if Amazon does not back down from this, what kind of feedback will come from the US president through words and actions…

Quick win!
So the smarter one gave in, and since it was just thinking aloud anyway

“This was never approved and (is) not going to happen,” a company spokesperson said, adding that “teams discuss ideas all the time.”

Trump called Amazon founder and executive chairman Jeff Bezos to complain about the Punchbowl News report, a White House official said.

“Jeff Bezos is very nice,” Trump told reporters. “He solved the problem very quickly. He did the right thing.”

We still have to wait anxiously until May 7th, when the College of Cardinals gathers in the Vatican to elect a new Pope. :church:

If Graham’s wish comes true, we would at least get a surprising head of state in Europe.
