Hi
I’ve been wondering about the reasons behind the undervaluation of TietoEVRY’s stock. Almost every week, there are articles praising TietoEVRY. Today, for instance, Kauppalehti had an article “These Helsinki Stock Exchange shares are now cheap”, which stated the following about TietoEVRY:
“Based on this year’s forecasts, Tieto’s P/E ratio is 39.5% lower than its 10-year median. Tieto is also among the best earnings improvers of the second quarter with 110% growth. The first-quarter results also exceeded analysts’ forecasts. In the short term, earnings growth is driven by synergies from the merger. According to Factset data, the stock has about 15% upside potential, with an average target price of €28.75 and an average recommendation of overweight.”
After Q2, firms like Inderes (€25, Add → €28, Add) and OP (€26, Buy → €30, Buy) raised their target prices. After the earnings season, Kauppalehti published an article “Here are the stock exchange’s buy-rated papers after the earnings season - 15 analyst-favorite stocks join the list”. The article states that Tieto’s stock has more than 15% upside. Similarly, the merger synergies and better-than-expected Q2 results are mentioned again.
But what happens after the Q2 announcement? Immediately after the release, the share price takes a small bounce up, only to start heading down.
On September 2, 2020, TietoEVRY issued a press release stating that integrations and the merging of operations have progressed as planned. This is said to affect a total of up to 550 roles.
What happens again? The share price doesn’t take off; it just stalls, as it has for the past few months.
Do people still remember the headlines about Tieto’s failures?
This forum seemed to be the only place where I couldn’t find headlines about Tieto. Well, that’s fixed now ![]()
Are those old blunders still affecting TietoEVRY’s stock, or what’s the problem? Have the headlines burned into people’s minds and ruined the company’s reputation?
It’s true that large software projects always carry risks, but I believe, or at least hope, that lessons have been learned from those mistakes.
What do you think about the company and what has been holding the share price back? I look forward to hearing your comments.
