Speculative Stocks ("penny stocks", "hype stocks", "pump and dump")

Car by euro

Even though the title doesn’t explicitly mention an industry, has there been any speculation here about the hype industry for the coming year? Where is new positive buzz starting to emerge? Usually, I don’t get in because I’m too late. Tech succeeded, and cryptos succeeded a few years back, even in terms of a timely exit… now I thought I’d try to be a bit more on time and start watching where the buzz starts to appear.

I tried to skim through the thread but couldn’t find anything. There could even be a separate thread for this speculation if it generates discussion.

Many people have been talking about the uranium bull waking up. Yesterday, almost all uranium miners took a big leap (>10%), which someone speculated was due to institutional additions. The guys I follow, e.g., on Twitter, believe the commodity cycle is at the bottom. I’ve been trying to find offers for commodities and utilities (how was that translated into Finnish again:thinking:). But in reality, I have no idea :man_shrugging:t2:

I’d say off the top of my head that space technology, moon travel, etc., and psychedelics. Both have the makings of good hype, as they are concrete fields truly undergoing change, with their true size and potential still somewhat veiled. If SpaceX were to list, I would definitely buy, even just due to the Musk anomaly.

Uranium was hyped up already in the spring, but never really took off. We’re trying to find the next bubble here too, so we can get our stakes in early :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

@Badwithmoney yeah, it’ll still explode :radioactive: :crossed_fingers:

On Shareville, I noticed interest in a company called Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd. After a quick read, it seems they potentially have a massive oil discovery in their sights in the Namibia and Zimbabwe region. Many in the ā€œAksjer med stort vekstpotensiale i nƦr fremtidā€ group are predicting it will skyrocket in the near future, so there’s hype potential.

The analysis from last month is quite bullish.

The stock price has grown strongly over the last month

If anyone has looked into this lottery ticket more closely, I’d be interested to hear your views.

RGLS, or Regulus Therapeutics. Developing medicines for kidney treatment. It has been on the rise in recent days as insiders made massive investments. I can’t say if it’s still worth investing as it approaches the 1USD mark.

Insider purchases were at 0.62 four days ago; now the price is 0.92.

The highest price was 220USD in 2014, from which it has dropped to under a dollar, a complete lottery ticket

These are two genetic diseases, one of which is very rare, and the other already has a medication, which only slows down the progression of the disease (cyst). The studies are in very early stages.

Quantumscape.

While for me this is (was?) a stock meant for a long-term hold, now the price is bending into such positions that I feel it’s my duty to ā€œwarnā€ about it, in case someone wants to start playing with said stock just for the volatility.

QS yesterday was about +30% and now in the pre-market another +30%.

Wisely, yesterday I put out a 54-dollar bid, thinking that for once I’d get out in time. Damn it, it’s already hovering at 75 dollars.

If THCBL comes out, I wonder if it would take off with QS. That’s currently my biggest investment in space, 5000 pieces. If the deal falls through, there will be some losses.

THCB rose in premarket without a DA announcement . Just imagine if a DA comes, it could rise pretty quickly. I’m still watching for a spot to add to my position if it dips. Maybe when the markets open there will be some profit-taking and the price could dip a bit if there’s no DA. Of course, there’s a risk here if the merger doesn’t go through. But if it does, the FOMO could be strong right now.

Well, what a ride. Just when you think it can’t get any worse, the Yanks show their true colors every day  Now, for example, QuantumScape has reached a market value of about 30 billion, and a product might be coming out in maybe 4 years. At the same time, SPACs are rocketing even if a DA (Definitive Agreement) isn’t even known yet, and even GNUS has been up +10% for a second day. At that point, when Dyna also starts to climb uphill, we’re probably about 24 hours from an epic collapse

Edit: I really would like to tinker with Tuscan (Tuscan Holdings Corp.), but I already learned my lesson with SBE (Switchback Energy Acquisition Corporation) when it went up quite sharply and is now hovering over 40 dollars.

GLSI word of the day, I wonder if there will be an SPI-style pump and dump, I’m in with a small position from $17

It halted down so I dumped it… could it be that it was just such a boring spurt

Oh damn, it did take off! Well, let’s wait for the next stock rally

I’m trying to learn from the FCEL case and will no longer sell out my entire position, except for stocks originally intended for short-term plays, no matter how much they jump. Quantumscape was supposed to be a long-term hold, but my nerves couldn’t take it (i.e., I’m completely sure it will come down again), so after a significant rise, I cashed out my original investment and left the profits to float. It won’t sink the boat if it comes down, but it’s a sufficient position to feel good if it ever bags. The idea is to continue this with other blazing hot stocks. This isn’t how millionaires are made, but there’s also a smaller risk of ending up under a bridge

A small investment in $TGAN (TRANSPHORM INC) penny stock. Apparently, the patent portfolio is valued at over $200M, and the market cap is only $100M. Target $8, current price $2.85. The GaN (Gallium Nitride) market is expected to grow explosively in the coming years, so a multibagger? Or maybe not.

FCEL also went south for me. I have similar plans with hype stocks: I start taking my principal out when I feel it’s at a temporary peak and leave the profits in the stock. The intention is to build a separate portfolio from these later, but I still need to calculate at what value I would always buy each stock and how much profit would be desirable before taking out my principal.

This is quite a sight to behold, I’d rather watch this than TV, even though the position is gone

Now I’m a bit annoyed. After @Niinpa’s message, I checked and saw that it was halted and over 300% up, but it already dropped like a stone to $15. For a moment, I considered buying a small 100 shares, thinking I might have finagled some pizza money, but this one passed me by too. Now it would be worth $10k :sweat_smile:

Edit: Well, it went over $120:rofl:

150 and an immediate new halt. It seems to have broken the halt system since it returned to the price of the previous halt anyway…
