Arto Peura, Sales Manager at Optomed, moved to Bittium in July.
Shouldn’t the company announce this, or I guess it’s not mandatory?

There is no need to announce changes in sales staff. Changes in management can be communicated.
It would not be normal to announce that. Usually, only changes at the management team level are announced, not others. So, there is nothing unusual about this.
Bad signal when the sales team is leaving; the sales team should be growing right now. Not shrinking…
Trading hasn’t been exactly booming, so it might actually be a good thing that the staff is turning over
. Having worked in sales for over 30 years, I can also assure you that quality often makes up for quantity. Of course, one must also remember that it’s the ones who are able to land jobs elsewhere who leave…
Optomed’s marketing director also left for Bittium a few years ago. Arto was at Optomed for several years, it’s quite normal to switch jobs from time to time. Bittium has had strong momentum lately, which is probably appealing, and the salary likely saw a bump as well.
People come and go; a certain amount of turnover is always okay and necessary. People also make personal decisions, and every profession or job role has its life cycle. Apparently, the company does not report its staff turnover rate in any form? Of course, one could speculate that if business were booming, the trend might be different?
There are so many ways to look at this. It is unlikely, at the very least, that the sales manager failed miserably. Otherwise, they probably wouldn’t have gotten into Bit. But did they succeed? Maybe they saw that now is a good time to move on while their own stock is high. It might not be an achievement for them to stick around if Opto’s sales have now taken off; the job is done, and they can move on. Or especially in a situation where there has been some kind of policy decision that Aeye Health is the one driving the sales. In that case, they logically see that there is more room for them elsewhere. It’s hard to interpret this negatively, unless it means that Opto is somehow giving up on its sales.
And it could also be that they are following Huikuri… hinting that a position is open and things are rocking over there. Or they just like their old colleagues.
As a salesman myself, I can definitely hold a completely opposing view. If sales are going well, commissions are decent, and the managers aren’t constantly making things difficult, it’s very hard to imagine someone leaving a company just for the sake of it.
However, Opto was supposed to have that potential, blue ocean, etc., so sales and commissions should basically be coming in for free if the product were actually any good.
The Sales Director is responsible for strategic management and the big picture, while the Sales Manager focuses on concrete sales work and account management.
I definitely see it only as a negative sign when people start leaving a company where, in theory, a salesperson should have the opportunity to earn very good money. Of course, situations are always personal, and one shouldn’t draw too large of a conclusion from this alone.
Good day!
Arto Peura’s departure is a hot topic here right now. Just to clarify, Arto Peura was the Sales Manager for the Africa, Middle East, and Baltic regions.
Optomed’s primary focus areas at the moment are the USA, China, and India. There has been less information coming from India, but I am sure we will hear news from there. Europe is starting up little by little. Africa is comfortably under control through the AstraZeneca partnership, as we learned in connection with the Gitex event.
It should also be added that Laura Piila was also visibly representing Optomed at the Gitex event in Morocco, Africa.
I’ve been sitting here with my jaw dropped, wondering how people are drawing any conclusions from one sales rep changing companies; it’s the most standard career move there is.
And based on the figures, this guy hasn’t been able to close any deals, and we’re still waiting for some real growth.
Aeye Health’s new newsletter has been released. Not much new for those on the forum, although new news is also promised at the end of the letter: ”Expect more exciting updates very soon!”
