There doesn’t seem to be a thread yet for this analysis firm, so let’s set one up.
The company’s name pops up from time to time in forum discussions, and there seem to be a few users here who actively follow Red Eye’s operations.
The firm focuses on monitoring Nordic companies, especially in technology and the health sector. They themselves summarize their operations on their website as follows: ‘‘We believe the biggest innovations in the 21st century will be at the intersection of life sciences and technology and the Nordic countries will be a hot spot for it.’’
Red Eye’s services include, among other things, compiling top picks stock selections, somewhat like Inderes’ model portfolio, which has also performed quite well in recent years.
In my opinion, it’s a company worth following and discussing. In this thread, we can share tips on using their services and generally discuss the analysis of this interesting industry that has offered good returns.
It’s probably not appropriate to list them here, as they are behind a monthly fee. But there are surprisingly many pharmaceutical companies, and technology companies too, of course.
This is pure guesswork, as I haven’t used the service, but if you type “redeye top picks portfolio” into Google image search, you might be lucky enough to see a few lists that seem to be portfolio companies from the beginning of the year, and which might have leaked through the paywall. The images are from Redeye’s own pages, so there shouldn’t be anything questionable about this – I don’t even know if this list corresponds to the actual portfolio, but it contains several good companies whose base scenario has a way to go (the company’s quality scores and base prices should be visible on the page for free).
What can be discussed in this thread, as I don’t think one can talk about Redeye’s portfolio or its trades?
Perhaps generally about the accuracy of their analyses, for example, over a 6-month period, or something like that. Or of course, those public monitoring announcements, like today’s Carasent. They come quite often, although from what I’ve observed with a sidelong glance, very few of them end up in their portfolio.
Good point! I follow that page so infrequently that many high-quality and interesting free reports pass me by far too often. Perhaps this thread will fix this problem too.
This was precisely my own thought behind the creation of the thread. In addition, in my opinion, it is extremely interesting to try to find foreign analysis houses that operate in some specific “niche” market.
It is an undeniable fact that Inderes is the absolute top name in the domestic stock scene, and if this thread helps to dig up and follow similar companies from abroad, then it will benefit all of us.
Content behind a paywall and the information advantage it brings, in my opinion, also belongs to those who pay for the service. Currently, it is 349-899 SEK per month, depending on how extensive a package one wants.
RE’s model portfolio has also performed very well in the last 5 years, but Inder’s free portfolio has done even better (Good Finland!! ). It would be very interesting to see a battle where someone had filled an OST with RE’s 25k€ portfolio and Inder’s 25k€ portfolio from the March low. At this point, one could already be very happy with the returns of such a portfolio
RE has clearly won during that period, and that’s why I bought the premium in addition to Inderes.
This thread is a good idea. Even though it’s not appropriate to publish the paid top picks portfolio here one-to-one, we can still discuss individual companies that RE follows.
Let’s see how the discussion progresses; we can always change the thread’s name and theme if the discussion moves in that direction. The world is surely full of smaller and larger analysis firms/instances that still fly under the radar of the general public.
The thread’s name could change, if needed, to something like “Spotting and Following Foreign Analysis Firms.”
Well, this is a coincidence. I was just wondering if I should subscribe for one month just to see the Top Picks. Four of them are already known to me.
The latest research update seems to be free, and it also shows the Bear-Base-Bull levels. In addition, at least on mobile, for individual companies, in the “Company overview” section, it says, “this company is one of the Top Picks and has generated x% since purchase.” So, if one were to go through each company separately, the Top Picks could be found for free. Is there any other benefit to the subscription? Even now, Carasent was a free tip.
A tip, if you’re copying this Red Eye portfolio, you should consider the brokerage fees. Since yesterday, there have been 11 buys and 1 sell. 103 SEK per transaction.
You could save a lot on this if you open a new account and get some opening discount. For example, Nordnet’s 3e per trade for a new client. Or private banking 3e per trade. Other brokers have similar and more special offers. For example, yesterday Nordea seemed to have some crazy Sweden days. I also noticed afterwards that some positions were actually almost full indirectly through some fund ownership. For example, Tin ny Teknik, Spiltan Småbolagsfond or Swedbank Robur Småbolagsfond Sverige. I could have skipped these positions.
It’s a shame there isn’t really an optimal account for these. Through an AOT (Arvopaperistettu Osake- ja Tuottotili - Securities and Derivatives Account) you could get a currency account, but the tax implications are not attractive. An OST (Osakesäästötili - Share Savings Account) doesn’t get a currency account, but the trading is tax-efficient. I wouldn’t be worried about dividends.
Can KalleH or someone else tell me how actively Redeye’s top portfolio is traded? Does the activity resemble Inderes, where trades are typically made once a quarter and holding periods are measured in years? I’ve gotten the impression from various free articles and headlines that trading is much more active, so copying the portfolio might not be suitable for those who prefer to buy stocks for a long-term portfolio and forget about them for years.
I’m mainly wondering if it would be enough for those interested to pay for one month, make it a one-month project to go through the Swedish market, and based on that, create a long-term small cap Swedish portfolio? The price tag for that service is quite high if one doesn’t have the interest/time to comprehensively and actively follow the Swedish market, when there barely seems to be enough time to follow the domestic portfolio (not to mention the US).
