The question used in the study was phrased in such a way that the entire diagnosis would be handled by AI alone. But as I understand it, other studies have also shown that the best strategy is for an ophthalmologist to confirm the AI’s diagnosis.

I haven’t checked the exact details of that case, but generally, the threshold for relying on AI alone is lower in screenings than in actual disease diagnostics.
