Yeah, I also think there are a few clear points in Nvidia’s investment in Nokia:
- Jensen first of all said that he would have liked to invest 2 billion. That is, the same amount as in Coherent and Lumentum, so in that respect, it would have been in line.
- Many others, such as OpenAI and CoreWeave, need huge investments to be able to finance GPU and generally data center equipment. Nvidia, on the other hand, acts as a buyer for Nokia, Coherent, and Lumentum.
- There’s also a point to what Wahlroos might have said… something like, the investment was just right so that it wouldn’t be interpreted as hostile. It was of a size that it is considered a strength in a spirit of cooperation, not an attempt to corner the market at an undervaluation.
- Nokia’s R&D costs have been growing, but with a strong cash position and balance sheet, there has been no need for a larger Nvidia investment. Even the new San Jose factory is pretty much up and running upfront, so to speak. If I remember correctly, 2 other component manufacturers needed funding for factory investments.
These at least came to mind.
