Hopefully Nscale will become Anthropic’s primary supplier. Anthropic has certainly convinced me enough that I happily pay around ~€100/month to use it. It’s hard to calculate how much I’ve saved over the past week or two, but maybe hundreds of thousands. For coding, it’s a very viable alternative, though ChatGPT and the like perform better in many other tasks even with their free versions.
Looking forward to Thursday with anticipation. The target prices seem completely pulled out of thin air when looking at the sluggish share price movement. Currently, there’s about a 4 percentage-point difference in the daily share price between Ciena and Nokia. On the other hand, both are up +40% YTD. Ciena has a stronger presence in data centers (for now), and Nokia has been repriced. I suppose some momentum lingered from those €15 price levels, which is why 40% YTD feels like a disappointment. ![]()
I fear the earnings report might bring disappointment if someone is expecting €2 billion in orders (Q2 was €2.8 billion). The entire last year was €2.4 billion, and the last quarter was reported to be exceptional. Then again, good news has been coming in continuously, and the bad news is mostly macroeconomic or otherwise geopolitical. Or has anyone seen a profit warning? Edit: The problem here is starting to be that everyone expects Hotard to be conservative and the results/order books to constantly outdo each other. Achieving €2B in orders is entirely possible, but in my opinion it’s on the high side, and that makes estimates leaning on it somewhat off-putting. I’d gladly be wrong about this, though.
Nice that it’s now being mentioned that two InP fabs are under construction. I briefly got excited until I realized one refers to Chandler. Has the deal even been officially confirmed yet? If anyone claims that two fabs are being built, there ought to be more proof than an intention to build something, maybe, someday, somewhere.
“Early 2027: Nokia plans to begin leasing part of the facility and convert it to indium phosphide (InP) production for optical communications.”
“No — the Chandler acquisition is not yet fully closed as of October 19, 2026”
Does Nokia have grandiose illusions of itself and imagine that the deal is closed?
I respect that. Or rather, I hope they were talking about some third fab.
Still on board. I’m slightly tempted to add even more, but maybe it’s better (for me) if Q3 takes an even deeper dip. I already have a pretty heavy weighting here and haven’t regretted the ride for a second. The Bold and the Beautiful could never match the emotional rollercoaster that Nokia’s story and price swings have stirred throughout its history. Especially not after I started allocating over 50% of my portfolio to this during 2023, believing in the story. Still beating the index, and I believe in even better things to come.
