Circling back again to this… The set-up is a carve-out designed to isolate and protect Japan’s domestic data (Sovereignty). Nokia Bell Labs AI-RAN External Compute Engine, Deep Receiver Algorithms and MantaRay AutoPilot are all integrated into the set-up.
The intellectual property (IP) agreement must be pretty airtight, you would imagine, but no real fanfare about this recent development from Nokia… Obviously the set-up is heavily reliant on Nokia’s anyRan software and algorithms, so Nokia are looking here at SaaS as a future core revenue driver. I guess the real value here though is in AI-RAN’s integration into the AI-GRID; interconnect routing (data center switching) and the optical backbone, as @Dibadoo has just highlighted.
