Quite interesting text, and AI-RAN certainly offers entirely new kinds of possibilities. And on the other hand, RAN would no longer be just a boring, efficiently specified single-purpose pipe.
Then the other side - there is still quite a lot of skepticism surrounding the matter. Ericsson’s side along with their customers hasn’t bought into the idea. I wonder if Ericsson can talk the customers around, so to speak. And especially Verizon says it very well and directly that they won’t adopt it - even though Tenorio advertises being a big GPU fan. Yeah right, I wonder. It will probably take completely new people at Verizon, yet again, for the mindsets to change. So let’s hope that T-Mo continues its winning streak that started in the 5G era, and thus this would force others to follow regarding AI-RAN.
From Nokia’s perspective, this is an opportunity and an interesting new thing where the balance of power might be reshuffled. However, it is still not a given that AI-RAN will be the winning product on the market in the coming years.
