Nokia today announced that it has delivered its Banshee tactical private wireless solutions to the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA), reinforcing the U.S. Marine Corps’ commitment to provide seamless, secure, and resilient communications for tactical operations. This milestone builds upon years of collaboration between Nokia and the Marine Corps in testing and refining next-generation communication capabilities to support critical operational needs.

MCTSSA acquired multiple Banshee units in early 2025 for further evaluation and integration into Marine Corps exercises. To support seamless deployment, Nokia provided hands-on training to MCTSSA and other Marine Corps units, covering private wireless network operations, setup, troubleshooting, and live demonstrations of Banshee’s capabilities.

“Banshee is a game-changer for the warfighter, providing the Marine Corps with a powerful, scalable private wireless solution that meets the demand of modern warfare. We are honored to support MCTSSA and the Marine Corps as they modernize battlefield connectivity while enhancing operational efficiency and resilience,” said Scott Ferguson, Chief Revenue Officer, Nokia Federal Solutions.

High bandwidth, low latency transport is critical for sensor-to-shooter integration, enabling real-time data flow from sensors to weapon systems. This ensures precise, timely strikes, maintaining battlefield advantage. Even slight delays can jeopardize missions, making robust connectivity a strategic necessity for lethality and adaptability in modern warfare,” said Capt. Eric Perez, MCTSSA Cyber Network Operation Officer.

Here is ChatGPT’s comment on the matter:

Nokia Secures Significant Contract with CoreSite to Support Growing Demand for AI Infrastructure

Nokia has been selected by CoreSite, a subsidiary of American Tower, as a supplier for IP routing solutions across 30 data centers in 11 major U.S. cities. The agreement covers Nokia’s 7250 IXR and 7750 SR routers, featuring the FP5 chip, designed to provide a scalable, low-latency, and high-performance network for CoreSite’s nearly 40,000 customer interconnections. The contract’s value could range from $30 to $50 million in the coming years, depending on the scope of completion and support services.

This agreement is strategically significant for Nokia, as it strengthens its position in the North American data center market, especially amidst the growing demand for AI, cloud services, and high-performance computing services. CoreSite is a key player in these areas, focusing specifically on providing a low-latency and dense connectivity environment crucial for sectors such as AI, finance, and cloud services. While CoreSite’s facilities are smaller than giants like Equinix or Digital Realty, it offers unique strengths by providing enterprise and cloud solutions that specifically cater to AI use cases, making it an ideal partner for Nokia’s advanced IP routing technologies.

Nokia’s role in data center connectivity is also reinforced by its existing partnerships with global giants such as Equinix, Microsoft Azure, and CoreWeave, demonstrating Nokia’s strength in the data center networking sector and solidifying its position in the AI infrastructure field.

This case seems to be progressing, which one would think would be a significant patent stream
https://www.nokia.com/blog/a-fair-deal-for-innovation/

but this one behind a paywall https://www.law360.com/articles/2340145 presumably is progressing

Chat-Jurpo sees a bit more from the article and comments as follows

The Law360 article titled "ITC To Probe Nokia Patent Claims Against Acer, Others" reports that the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has initiated an investigation into Nokia’s patent infringement complaints against Acer, Asus, and Hisense. Nokia alleges that these companies have violated its patents related to wireless communication technologies. The ITC’s decision to investigate indicates that it found sufficient grounds to examine the claims further. This development could potentially lead to import bans on the accused products if the ITC rules in Nokia’s favor.

This doesn’t quite directly belong to this thread, but indirectly it has a big impact on Nokia.

U.S. authorities have, according to Reuters, detected unauthorized communication components in Chinese-made solar power equipment.

“It practically means a built-in way to physically destroy the power grid,” one of the sources commented to Reuters.

The sources have not revealed which manufacturers’ devices are involved. According to Reuters, however, the world’s largest inverter manufacturer is Chinese Huawei, whose share of the global market was 29 percent in 2022.

So Europe, especially Germany, and in Finland above all DNA (in Finland, Telia is the only completely China-free operator), surely there’s no risk in this current China-heavy network strategy, right? We naively assume that “no one” will surely cheat, and at the same time overestimate our own ability to detect this. How did that slogan go again, everything starts with security - something like that it went. Yeah, right.

ChatGPT’s comment on Nokia’s potential outlook:

“Nokia’s sales prospects for private wireless networks up to 2030 and 2035 remain promising, but they should be assessed realistically in light of the latest industry data. According to Dell’Oro Group’s April 2025 report, the private wireless RAN market grew by over 40% in 2024 and now accounts for approximately 3–5% of the total RAN market. This share is expected to rise to 5–10% by 2029. Nokia is currently a leading player in the campus network segment outside China and holds a significant share (estimated at about 30–35%) of the private RAN market. If the total RAN market value remains at approximately $40 billion annually, the share of private networks would be about $2–4 billion by 2030, making Nokia’s share of RAN sales approximately $700 million to $1.4 billion. When including software, edge computing, and system integration services – such as MX Industrial Edge – Nokia’s total private wireless network sales could reach approximately $1.2–1.5 billion in 2030. By 2035, as enterprise adoption becomes more widespread and more countries open spectrum for private use, the private wireless market could grow to $4–5 billion globally, with Nokia’s share potentially being $2.0–2.5 billion, provided the company maintains its competitive advantage.”

Note: This is a corrected version, with lower figures based on Dell’Oro’s April analysis.

Hopefully Nokia is involved in those street lamp setups, no information was found that it would be, sounds interesting and requires a lot of equipment.
Nokia has LuxTurrim5g projects and Shikra Small cell radios, which could indicate that it at least has the expertise.
