Marimekko - Timeless Finnish design

Will it break through this week?

Well, that worked out. It’s nice to be right

Today saw a 3.59% increase, and Inderes’ target price of 40€ was broken, so I was thinking, since the share price is now 40.40€, should I set a 40€ stop loss? I’m just thinking that if it drops back to 40 euros in the morning, it will probably drop even more, at which point I could buy back. Maybe this rushing is mainly due to Marimekko being the largest holding in my portfolio and having the biggest gains. I’ve been thinking of buying and holding, but when there’s enough profit, I don’t want to lose even a single percentage of it anymore. Investing is hard :face_with_thermometer:

Don’t panic. The 40e stop loss might trigger quite easily still. Earnings are probably coming on the morning of 13.2, and I could almost guarantee that Christmas sales went extremely well, so you should take a firm grip of the rocket and enjoy the ride. :rocket:

I agree with boopy. This was already well on its way to 40€ before ihamuotila pulled the course down with his own sales (probably taking into account the last course rise before that). Now, mainly, that disturbance has been corrected and I think it will still rise during the rest of the month and peak from the results. So, in my opinion, the probability that it will take +10% in the next few weeks is significantly higher than that it would be -10%.

Well, at this rate, it’s going to be -10% after all. Is it Corona that’s weighing this down so much or what? I wish the Q4 results would come out already, I still have a lot of faith in them.

It happens in better circles too, e.g. LVMH and Hermes have also taken a hit. China will be a big source of demand for luxury goods.

@Vilperi I predict record-breaking Christmas sales. (Read: I’m dreaming)

Where is Marimekko’s production? Sorry, I’m just starting to get interested in the company…

Yeah, I saw the same thing, 13% of Marimekko’s production in China. Not to mention Marimekko’s popularity in Asia, I’m sure the Corona virus and quarantines will affect sales in Q1. Well, I guess the topic will be touched upon in the financial statement release.

Yeah, there were a few thousand employees there. And the list is almost a year old?

If they’re planning sales, how messed up is Japan because of Corona, or is it not at all? And does Marimekko have a lot of sales in China? And as for traditional fashion manufacturing, I believe that spring and summer collections have already been manufactured and are waiting for shipments to stores in the logistics center. And that at this time of year, production is already focusing on next autumn and winter collections, so delays of a few weeks won’t affect things at this stage. I personally don’t see Corona having a significant impact on their results, at least not in the first quarter… but this is my own interpretation of this.

It would be interesting to hear their comments on this. @Petri_Kajaani, what do you think?

For Marimekko, China still accounts for a very small part of its revenue. Only some small single-digit percentages of revenue. Japan is a completely different matter. After Finland, it is Marimekko’s second most important market. In my estimation, Japan brings in something like 10-15% of Marimekko’s revenue. Marimekko also has a relatively well-diversified manufacturing operation, and a really large part of the company’s products are made in Europe, so the company is not badly dependent on Asian manufacturing or local sales. However, it is really difficult to start speculating on how the coronavirus will affect Marimekko’s business operations. We will have to ask the company itself during the financial statement event. Marimekko is hosting a webcast for its Q4 earnings release for the first time, so I would estimate that it will also be possible to ask questions live online.

Here is also a link to an old Marimekko Q&A question, where the effects of textile tariffs on Marimekko’s business and Japan’s share of Marimekko’s revenue were asked. The figures and estimates of Marimekko’s Asian operations have been somewhat reviewed there, as the company itself does not disclose them in more detail.

Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu was seen with a Marimekko backpack, and the guy is apparently quite popular in Japan. Or at least one would imagine so, as it sold out online fairly quickly after this.

Next week is still quite a long time away, so even things like this must be noted. I have a very strong feeling that Q4 has gone well.

Marimekko has been one of the easiest cases to follow this rise. And the fall too, if it comes to that… Just follow the number of Marimekko products.

:+1:

Alright, after a small dip, we’re back to the 40s. Thursday will be an exciting day, and I expect the strong upward trend to continue.
