Inderes Coffee Room (Part 10)

In the USA thread and the just bought/sold thread, some investment decisions have been reported that have apparently been at least to some extent politically, ethically, or ideologically motivated due to the situation and actions of the current US administration under Trump. Is this common? Let’s ask. The poll can be here, but perhaps any further discussions should be in the USA thread, for example? @Sijoittaja-alokas .

Have you made investment decisions in recent weeks that have other than purely financial motives?
  • Yes, and specifically “voted” with my money
  • Yes, they have been contributing factors
  • No, but I have considered it as a concrete possibility
  • No, and I don’t think I would actually act that easily

Edit: And so that the target of a possible “boycott” has specifically been the USA /Trump/Musk in one way or another.

AI has really gone wild now.. :joy: But yeah, surely all of us still prefer listening to other people’s speech, and so do I. Mainly this is about exploring whether there’s any place for these in people’s daily lives alongside the flood of other content. :robot:

Quite a few probably boycott China, so this could be clarified a bit if you want to find out how people have acted regarding US investments.

How many of you have already had time to read the latest comments from the long-time representative of the dividend party in Kauppalehti about Helsinki’s dividend spring? Now you can go humming a summer hymn to get a refill for your coffee cup. Spring is officially here! How does that old proverb go: “A few months from the dividend hawk to summer, half a month from the chaffinch, little from the wagtail…”

A few delicious and day-brightening highlights:

“The most unpleasant dividend news comes from Neste and Nokian Renkaat. A zero result was expected from Neste, but the dividend reduction to one-sixth was a bitter surprise.”

“Due to the catastrophe caused by the war, Nokian Renkaat has paid a lower than normal dividend of 0.55 euros over three years. The additional dividend cut to 0.25 euros is incomprehensible, especially as the company is already getting a new start. Either the company’s board is extremely pessimistic for reasons unknown to the market, or the company does not understand market psychology. Of course, the stock market would have reacted to a weak result, but a 22 percent share price collapse in two days would at least have been avoided.”

Interesting observation from the report: Evolution is not a mass-market stock, except specifically among 20-40 year olds.

Fortunately for Lindström, both Neste and Nokian Tyres can take advantage of the share price drop caused by the dividend disappointment and buy back their own shares for cancellation more cheaply than before! Money has also been left in their pockets from the dividend cuts - what an opportunity this opens up!

Here we go again. I’ve successfully stayed away from my portfolio, letting it sit, and now that I went to check on it, I can’t get in. It’s Nordnet we’re talking about.
Apparently, the username + password method has already been removed, even though it said somewhere it would be valid until April. The QR code doesn’t help either, as I can’t authenticate. Mobile ID (Mobiilivarmenne) would probably be really convenient, but I can’t get it for this (company) subscription… I managed to enter credentials from another bank, but got “bad request” or something…

(Yes, I’ll contact customer service, I just needed to vent first.)

Am I wrong in remembering that one trick was to select “create new account” and quite soon in the process Nordnet realizes that the account exists and lets you in.

Since I don’t have investments in the US, I’m probably disqualified from answering this survey. On the other hand, I finally managed to deactivate my X account over the weekend; I don’t really miss it much, except for the observations on Finnish companies by Juha Varis of S-Fenno, which I gladly read. So the sacrifice wasn’t a huge one for me, and I hope there will be a surge in account closures in Finland anyway, because surely Elon Musk follows country-specific statistics and can then ponder to himself whether this could have anything to do with his recent statements.

With Trump’s gangster mob now rampaging, I am still considering my stance on American consumer products; fortunately, I’m not a big fan of Coke or Pepsi, and I don’t remember when I last visited McDonald’s

Probably the last sign of wisdom was taken away when the only remaining wisdom tooth was removed from aching. It was a long weekend waiting to get to the dentist, but an even greater relief when the pains disappeared. It’s significantly easier to endure mental pain when one’s own stocks are falling than that toothache, just something I noted.

Someone made a great drone video last week about the construction status of Helsinki’s Crown Bridges. Duration 5 min. :sun_with_face: The area will undergo significant changes as the areas of Merihaka and Sörnäisten rantatie are renewed with infill development and as the still missing blocks of Nihdi are built. In addition, the Hanasaari power plant area will change, although plans for the entire area are not yet available. Of course, Kruunuvuorenranta, located at the Laajasalo end of the bridges, is also under construction, but it is not seen much in this video due to the camera angles:

In a way, I did the same. Instead of a total deletion, my action was to put it into a coma. I mainly deleted posts, went through the settings, removed pictures, and made the account colorless and faceless. If I ever return, it will still be there waiting. However, it requires a change of ownership or a complete turnaround from the owner. I couldn’t stand the current chaos anymore. I’ve been quite attached to that social media platform in the 2020s, so it feels strange now. The most important things for me to follow there were finance and sports. My own commenting focused mostly on sports. The loss is medium-sized for me, but detaching might do some good, and therefore I have no intention of filling it with any new social media platform. It might be that a bit more time will trickle into this place too, but it might just as well not.

Satunnainen IT-vinkki Windows-käyttäjille.
Precise screenshot

  • Method 1 - press the Win and Shift keys while holding down the S key. The screen darkens, and you can use the mouse to select a rectangular area, which, once the main mouse button is released, is transferred to the clipboard. You can copy clippings from the clipboard to other destinations using the CTRL+C key combination. Like this:
    kuva

  • Method 2 - Type either ‘snipping tool’ or ‘kuvakaappaustyökalu’ into the Windows search bar. You don’t even need to type it all the way, as depending on the language, the correct option will appear for selection. With the Snipping Tool running, you can perform the same trick mentioned above using the ‘New’ function (or ‘New’). In this case too, the selected area is automatically transferred to the clipboard.

That’s all for now. Have a good evening everyone!

EDIT: The deletion of a previous message has left this message without context, but let this remain as a standalone tip.

My blood pressure was ideal this morning after the second measurement, 116/76 and heart rate 53. At the occupational health doctor’s request, I’m now measuring it for a week; I’ve never even measured these before. The doctor even advised me to buy my own blood pressure monitor, as “that age has already come along.” As an eternally young forty-something, I got a tiny invisible pea stuck in my nostril, while still smiling understandingly.

Now I notice that for some reason my blood pressure rises on weekends and drops on weekdays. Even yesterday, on Monday morning, my blood pressure was higher than in the evening, but both readings were still very good. On Sunday, my blood pressure was clearly higher than it is now on Monday or Tuesday. I’ll be interested to see how it ends up.

It would be strange if on weekdays, during workdays, my blood pressure is ideal and on weekends slightly elevated. Are there possibly others in the same boat for whom weekdays are more restorative than weekends, or what am I not understanding here..?

So many factors are related to blood pressure that it’s difficult to give any rule of thumb! On weekends, stress is caused by alcohol, breaking the sleep rhythm, or most of all, the knowledge that one has to visit the mother-in-law’s place.

Especially the systolic can fluctuate somewhat during the day, so there’s nothing particularly strange about that

Good that there are other middle-aged people with low blood pressure here. Mine goes even lower, around 11X-6X approximately

I see this as an experiment with nothing to lose, and if this concept doesn’t generate any interest, it can be easily scrapped. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: On the other hand, if interest were to arise, the current free NotebookLM could be swapped for a paid podcast generator with more options to customize the podcast.

In answer to your question, yes, it is based on our reports, and in principle, anyone could generate similar podcasts themselves, but I think very few would actually do it. At least not anyone who reads Inderes’ analyses only occasionally.

Edit: I moved this to the coffee room
