Inderes Coffee Room (Part 10)

Hi everyone!

I received a development suggestion privately earlier today. The suggestion was that sometimes it’s unclear which company or topic a message refers to, especially if it’s a reply to another message – in such cases, one has to click (and perhaps scroll) to see what it’s about.

So, if it’s likely that it’s not clear to many which company is being discussed, the company’s name (or topic) should be included in the message. Of course, in company-specific threads and certain situations, it’s clear what’s being discussed, but if, for example, a thread discusses various companies (or topics) haphazardly, then quoting or mentioning the company/topic would be good.

A Couple of Example Cases:

1.

There’s a lot of discussion about different companies in the same thread, but the reply function hasn’t even been used in the message, so you can’t quickly click to the message that was replied to. And even if the reply function was used, quoting another message is often the clearest and most convenient way for many, unless it’s about consecutive messages.

2.

For example, in the ‘coffee room’ (general chat), a week-old message; “Where did you get it so cheap?” and perhaps the reply function was used, but then a hundred people click and see that it’s about a plaster (band-aid) and not any specific interesting company. In this case too, clicks and many people’s wasted time would have been saved if the replied-to message had been quoted.

Examples of Replying

The Reply button.

In this message, the “Reply” button has been used, and when I click the first person’s name/picture, it immediately goes to the message that was replied to.

And below are my instructions for quoting messages, which should be used in various situations, as they often make the reading experience easier and more pleasant. Quoting is often better than just the Reply function.

If it’s not necessarily clear to most from a message which company or topic is being discussed, then mention it clearly or quote the message – let’s save everyone’s time and effort, thank you!

Mostly, these things are done excellently, but sometimes there are cases where it would have been appropriate to quote or mention the topic/company being discussed.

Thank you for your understanding and have a nice rest of the week everyone!
