The Silenced Mr. Index
Verphu this morning. “Reminder: stock picking is normally a difficult sport if you want to beat the index.” Indeed!
Uncle Masse created the concept of the Silenced Mr. Index (probably found under the magnifying glass with search terms) on the forum a long time ago, and fortunately Verphu, not Uncle, brought this always relevant theme back into discussion. Uncle doesn’t want to go back to the cellar as a “doomsayer” …
In short, the point is that for the vast majority of us, picking and monitoring stocks, and buying-selling-buying-selling, is a completely pointless endeavor: the end result is about Mr. Index, and this also applies to Uncle Masse
Once you realize this, you put your money into the Index and start doing something completely different. However, old Uncle doesn’t go into the Index because playing with stocks is a pastime and ENTERTAINMENT!
Uncle Masse, FA, this probably shocked many younger stock believers, but “truth does not burn in fire either,” say those wiser than us ![]()
PS. There used to be its own thread for this: The Silenced Mr. Index. It’s worth reading through, it’s not too long, because hardly anyone wanted to chat about it with Uncle ![]()
