Navigating the landscape of CD8+ T cell tumor infiltration: Barriers, mechanisms, and therapeutic opportunities
The new 2026 Cell Press publication on CD8+ T cell tumor infiltration is highly relevant for Bex. The paper highlights that PD-1 therapy only works effectively once CD8+ T cells are able to enter the tumor.
The most important point for Bex: CLEVER-1 acts as a gatekeeper in the blood vessel wall. It can influence which types of immune cells gain access from the blood to the tissue. This gate can favor immunosuppressive and tumor-protective immune cells while simultaneously hindering the entry of killer T cells into the tumor.
A good “external” validation that strongly supports Bex’s solid tumor theme. Bex is not solely about macrophage activation and M2→M1 reprogramming, but is now also being integrated into the logic related to dismantling the immunosuppressive TME (tumor microenvironment) barrier.
