There have been several examples along the way where companies know how to sell expertise and science at a reasonable price, to the benefit of everyone involved. Then there are those promising firms that would rather be driven to the brink of bankruptcy than let a buyer get them too cheaply. Never mind the shareholders who have been financing this operation for years and end up with nothing to show for it.
