If you think about it from the patient’s perspective, finding markers to detect early-stage cancers would be almost more important than the drug itself. It would lead to more, cheaper, and longer-lasting treatment outcomes. However, markers probably aren’t as good a business as drugs, but together they would also increase drug usage. Thus, it would also be in the drug developer’s interest to find markers that predict early stages to be used in a screening-like manner.
