JASSM missiles potentially coming to Ukraine’s use:
Our NATO ally’s actions are a bit two-faced in some respects.
Russian forces attacked Sumy with an Iskander-K cruise missile and an aerial bomb, injuring at least two civilians, authorities said.
A brief history of Russia. Includes the essentials.

If the Yanks are a bit two-faced, we certainly know how to do that here too:
“Crea reports that since the Kremlin launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, EU countries have paid a total of 200 billion euros for Russian fossil fuels, mainly oil and gas. The think tank particularly highlights that, during the same period, the combined financial support from EU countries and the United States to Ukraine amounts to 185 billion euros.”
Well, fortunately, we are heading in a better direction.
This is Arbatskaya Station in Moscow. It’s also a bomb shelter in case of nuclear war
Today, the sealed door worked by itself. Not only did it work by itself, but it didn’t go up all the way
According to one of the Moscow channels, escalators and lighting are not working at the station. The reason is unknown.

I haven’t yet seen any reports / videos of Ukraine striking stuck train columns with drones. Although, Ukraine’s OPSEC is tight and understandably Russia doesn’t want to publish such things themselves. I would imagine that these are juicy targets if/when Ukraine sees them and manages to strike. In any case, Russia’s routes for bringing in reinforcements in large numbers are limited and they are most certainly being monitored.

Russian sources reports about the retreat of the russian army from the western bank of the Seim River near Tyotkino, and the blowing up of all the bridges there.
“Z-war correspondents” report that the Russian armed forces have started to retreat in the Kursk region:
“The Russian army retreated in an orderly manner to the eastern bank of the Seym River near Tyotkino. Settlements have been evacuated, and two bridges, in Tyotkino and Popovo-Lezhachi, were blown up when the enemy approached. New prepared defense lines were taken up.”
Sumy is in Ukraine; however, I consider it quite likely that Russia will intentionally bomb its own civilian targets at some point, as there have already been many accidental bombings.
“The Italian government demands that Ukraine ask for permission if and when it intends to use, for example, missiles sent by Italy. Additionally, the ministry emphasizes that missiles supplied by Italy must under no circumstances be used for an attack.”
Here is the same in Finnish.
"– Some Westerners are no longer concerned that the fall of Ukraine would lead them into a risky situation, Moshes says.
He believes these same people think that a Russian attack on another NATO country is not as likely as it was in the early stages of the war of aggression.
– In other words, they don’t see Ukraine winning the war, nor do they feel that the fall of Ukraine is a threat to them, Moshes summarizes."
Based on Russian TV’s version of “A-studio”, it certainly doesn’t sound like they are popping champagne bottles in Russia just yet. Only a year ago, in the talk of these same guys, a Russian victory was inevitable and the destruction of Ukraine certain.

“Mykkänen, originally from Pyhäjärvi in Northern Ostrobothnia, was killed in early August in fighting in the Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine.”
I was going to write about this earlier in the week, but I didn’t end up posting it because there wasn’t really anything new per se. But the New Sovietland is repeating the same pattern again, and the topic has been brought up on Twitter, among other places.
This is now at least the third significant time during the war when something happens that is surprising and/or very embarrassing for our neighbor. This always leads to the same result. First, they are completely confused and nothing happens when someone should be making decisions, but getting permission from the top takes time. Within about a week, the troll factories have also received their instructions on how to react this time. And on almost all forums, there was a growing flood of negative messages: Ukraine doesn’t know how, isn’t succeeding, can’t win. As a second phase, all sorts of strange things are fed through the media. Which local vatniks then pass along as “news” from Yle and such. Or does someone really imagine that all these “Nord Stream is Ukraine’s fault,” “Germany is cutting support,” etc., stories just suddenly popped up on their own? A pure and completely transparent attempt to shift attention away from a topic that is embarrassing for them, because they aren’t capable of anything else.
Personally, I’m mainly very disappointed (also) in the Finnish media. Have we still not developed any kind of “vaccination” / ability to grasp what is actually happening in the background and react accordingly? We just keep parroting, year after year, everything that inferior neighbor decides to feed us. Is there no capacity left for critical/analytical thinking? If this is obvious to everyone, then what’s the hold-up? Do we get points for taking the perspectives of all parties into account? Even mass murderers? ![]()
Why have the topics of “dirty bomb,” Nord Streams, and allegedly thwarted negotiations emerged so dramatically in recent days in the information space around the war in Ukraine?
This is a diversion of attention.
And this is what Russia is doing. The events in the Kursk region came as a surprise to them. In a week, they came to their senses and started to prepare information space to divert attention and prepare the ground for a “backup option” for themselves.
It may look like this - the Russians are organizing some kind of provocation, for example, like the recent fire at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. They are spreading hysteria to the skies. And “agree” to stop military actions, demanding the same from the AFU to “eliminate the problem threatening everyone” under international control.

It has been interesting lately to see not only Russia’s remarkably high personnel and artillery loss figures, but also the relatively low losses of tanks and armored personnel carriers. Could there be a shortage of them and an attempt to conserve them?

Edit: @dzei’s excellent observation about the narratives being spread in social media and news is pertinent. Below are the same conclusions from one guy. Short thread behind the link.
Fellas, it seems like it’s time to give our heads a shake again.
Isn’t it odd that just as the inKurskion is going well, we get four stories in 24h:
• Nordstream Redux
• Kyrgyzstan exports
• Germany stopping supplies
• Biden stopping Storm Shadows
Weird, eh? 1/
I would also point out that there has been a lot of information coming in about Germany ending its support for Ukraine. It might be a hoax. It’s worth waiting for clarifications without panicking.
Already, I’m seeing explanations that the German thing is based on how they categorize aid and their views on how it will be financed. No need to panic yet.
In my opinion, the headline is misleading to say the least. The article mentions that in the future, the funding for the support will not come from the federal budget but from proceeds from frozen Russian assets.
”In a letter sent to the German defense ministry on Aug. 5, Finance Minister Christian Lindner said that future funding would no longer come from Germany’s federal budget but from proceeds from frozen Russian assets, according to the German newspaper.”
The aforementioned messages referring to the takeover of the information space are indeed spot on, especially when looking at the headline of that Politico story and the actual content of the matter.
