Do you have a moment to talk about real… truly alternative investments? ![]()
Or is perceiving collectible material as an investment just deceiving oneself (and above all, one’s wife), at the latest, a post-rationalization arising from cognitive dissonance? ![]()
Especially now during the corona pandemic, many spend their time at home, and several might even get bored - at the latest when all the companies on the Helsinki stock exchange have been explored
Could one find inspiration here for new collecting hobbies? Not necessarily as an investment opportunity, but with that option, the interest in collecting often grows. Even if the intention isn’t to make a business, hobbies are often more fun if you know the collectible item is somehow liquid and holds its value!
At least @polo6 apparently collects wines diligently and perhaps even makes a few euros in profit from it (?). @Masse surely also considers his “Ring-Cod” in the chest freezer an alternative investment

I myself have never been much of a collector/hobbyist of very specific items - no experience with stamp collections or coins - but nowadays, alongside stocks and real estate, I have a fairly decent 5-digit pot in valuable watches
The intention is not so much to make (or encourage others to make) any big business, although changes in my own preferences and diligent market monitoring and seizing opportunities have enabled even better (percentage-wise) returns than my stock portfolio over these past few years. The main focus, however, is to enjoy the pleasure these utility items bring, and of course, a big plus with certain cases is their good value retention (sometimes even exceeding market economy situations), and their generally good liquidity. So, in a way, from an investment perspective, it can be considered a good safe haven for cash ![]()
It would be nice to gather views here on truly alternative “investment objects,” which perhaps practically fall into the realm of hobbies. Often, in hobby groups for these collectible items, investment-related discussions are condemned, so it would be fun to share thoughts. People have long made money (and good cheer) with all sorts of things, for example, old game consoles, game-worn jerseys/hockey sticks, special edition sneakers, rare euro coins, etc.
And why not discuss business opportunities based on capital investment and, for example, sales work - is the record-hot summer and home confinement caused by quarantines a perfect opportunity to sell fans for big money - and order thousands of fans home now to wait?
What do you do/would you do to earn extra euros to invest in the stock market, or where do you like to keep cash in a form other than purely monetary?
Who knows, maybe one day we’ll see a collectible rarity ETF ![]()
