Meta’s Average revenue per user or ARPU seems to have progressed quite well over the years.
For metals, the same is proposed as for Microsoft and Amazon: that Bitcoin be added to the treasury.
As I recall, in those cases, it wasn’t even close to passing. ![]()
Meta is reportedly planning to cut about 5% of its “lowest-performing” employees and hire new ones in their place.
The article below also states; the company is investing in artificial intelligence, and previous layoffs in 2022–2023 affected 21,000 employees. The goal for 2023 was already to significantly streamline operations.
Many tech companies, including Cisco (CSCO.O), opens new tab and IBM (IBM.N), opens new tab, have been looking to redirect investments into artificial intelligence technology. Meta has also poured billions into AI-related infrastructure, with its expenses expected to grow this year.

Partially familiar justifications, I got a little new food for thought.
Despite Brad Freeman’s comment, isn’t TikTok’s ban quite a good thing for Meta? One could imagine traffic and ad revenue shifting to Meta’s services, providing short-term impetus for growth.
Definitely a good thing. Even though it now seems that Trump is seeking a partial ownership model and TikTok will return to use, one would think that content creators will also start creating content for Instagram (just in case they don’t fall flat) and users and advertisers will follow. One would think that platform uncertainty is also a bad thing for advertisers.
Here’s another perspective on Meta in the form of a quick analysis. ![]()

Meta’s generative AI department has reportedly panicked, according to the story below, because Deepseek v3 surpassed Llama 4 in performance despite its smaller budget. Engineers are urgently trying to analyze and copy Deepseek. Management is concerned about this department’s high costs and bloated staff, where many bosses earn more than Deepseek v3’s entire development budget. Deepseek r1 further exacerbated the situation.

Meta’s Q4 report is out.
Revenue grew by 21%. EPS saw a robust 50% increase, reaching $8.02.
“Family daily active people (DAP) – DAP was 3.35 billion on average for December 2024, an increase of 5% yearover-year.”
Costs grew by only 5%, so the stronger revenue growth also left a decent slice for the bottom line.
Taxes were also lower at 12% vs. 17% in the comparable period, which boosted EPS.

Here’s a bit more about Meta’s results. ![]()
Zuckerberg says that DeepSeek has new insights that Meta is still analyzing. Development in the field is reportedly progressing such that each new player brings something new from which others can learn. It’s too early to say how this will affect infrastructure and investments.
Meta is investing heavily in AI, but not just in Meta’s AI, but also in how AI is integrated into various services, such as advertisements and news feeds. The goal is to serve billions of people, which requires a lot of capacity, among other things. Investing in infrastructure is likely to provide a long-term competitive advantage.
Here is Timo Heikkilä’s concise comment on Meta’s results. ![]()
Meta’s results exceeded analysts’ forecasts, and the company’s share price rose slightly in after-hours trading. According to management, it is not yet time to slow down AI investments.
Here’s a pretty good tweet that also highlights some of Meta’s history. Perhaps this also clarifies for many what all the company encompasses. ![]()

A leaked memo from Meta Reality Labs’ CTO highlights a certain criticality for the company’s success this year, or something to that effect.
He emphasizes growing sales, customer retention, and engagement, especially in MR technology and the Horizon Worlds mobile app. The year 2024 is described as successful, but insufficient; for example, the memo urges employees to do excellent work and utilize all opportunities (blah blah blah). In the memo, he emphasizes that greatness is a choice and large teams are not needed for top results. According to him, operational excellence and a passion for development are key.

Here’s Blomma’s story about how Meta has faced challenges due to AI investments, which has increased fixed costs and limited opportunities to reduce spending during an economic downturn.
According to analysts, this greater macroeconomic uncertainty affects the company’s spending flexibility, etc. Alphabet is also experiencing similar problems.
The story is not behind a paywall.
Meta AI research lead Joelle Pineau has announced her departure from Meta, with her last day of work being at the end of May. She has been a key figure in Meta’s AI research, especially leading the FAIR unit and involved in the development of Llama models and PyTorch, among others.
The timing is interesting, as Meta is heavily investing in AI to compete with OpenAI and Google.
Pineau has not yet revealed her next move, but plans to first take time for reflection and recovery.
