Meta is building the 7,000-kilometer-long Petal submarine cable between France and the United States, with a capacity reaching one petabit per second.
Entering service in 2029, the cable will double the capacity of current top-tier connections and will be the first to utilize multi-core fiber in transoceanic data transmission.
Petal will carry twice the capacity of current best-in-class transoceanic cables without a proportional increase in power or physical infrastructure. The system will deliver 1 petabit per second of capacity, marking the single largest generational increase in capacity of any transoceanic subsea cable system.
