Thanks again @Juha_Kinnunen, for taking the time to answer us, who are concerned about the Model Portfolio’s (Mallisalkku) ventures, and even on a weekend. The topic is probably already quite exhausted in everyone’s opinion; now we should just give peace to work and calmly wait for results. Unfortunately, Qt’s negative news hit just on Friday. I hope, however, that the humor of Inderesians still suffices for the meme thread’s content; I don’t believe anyone means any harm, the topic is just too delicious for meme makers.
I also brought Juha’s comment here because what he says is certainly true: criticism comes for failures, but thanks are rarely given for successes. The forum, however, can in a way be thought of as the analysts’ workplace; they work in a service profession when they answer our questions here, meaning we forum members are customers. Especially a comprehensive report is always quite an intellectual product from an analyst, and its mere publication deserves thanks, even if one doesn’t have to agree with everything. We rarely fail to thank people in service professions in real life.
However, it must be added that Finns are simply not as polite in everyday life as in many other countries, and for example, the word “please” is usually replaced only by the conditional when asking for something. It’s surprisingly difficult for me too to add “please” when speaking English, as I travel quite rarely.
As an everyday example, I could mention that it is really difficult for Finns to say thank you when someone walking ahead intentionally holds a door open for them. I don’t mean situations where the person ahead lets the one behind go first; then even a Finn almost has to say thank you🙂. Foreign tourists even profusely thank for this gesture of attention. I have done some empirical research on this, as I visit Stockmann daily🙂.
When things are first recognized, each of us can strive for better; politeness does not only belong at home, among friends, or at one’s workplace; one must be polite even to strangers.
As a final remark, one could state that the heart emoji certainly replaces thanks in a certain sense in the online world, but sometimes it just feels like it’s not enough. I have written about this before in the coffee room; everyone will surely find their own way to thank if they feel that a heart is not enough.
I am eagerly waiting to see if other Nordic people find their way to Inderes’ multilingual forum; then I can properly observe if there are differences in cultural customs🙂
This was supposed to go into the thread “Kiitos Inderes-yhteisö huippuduunista, jaksatko siirtää @Sijoittaja-alokas, please !?” (Thanks Inderes community for the great work, can you move this @Sijoittaja-alokas, please !?). I managed to move it myself, so Alokas can continue his beauty sleep ![]()
