Inderes Coffee Room (Part 9)

This otherwise excellent idea proves once again that there really is no such thing as a free lunch. Namely, moving Turku to Stockholm time would, as a side effect, slow down escaping from Turku by an hour!

I have always wondered about the quintessential Finnish hatred of Turku.

I don’t know, maybe it only goes away by moving here. When you come all the way from Tampere, you already feel like you’re abroad as soon as the Lempäälä border looms!

And I’m still just waiting for the next steps planned by Laakkonen and Hallqvist now that the merger fell through.

Or maybe Preato has now sold shares to Laakkonen.

I couldn’t have formulated my internal opinion any better. Thank goodness for @Pohjolan_Eka

If we assume that the electricity comes from solar panels, then it truly is comparable to plants. The difference is that here, energy collection (panels) and protein production (microbes) are decoupled from each other. Both of these function more efficiently than the corresponding functions in plants (panels collect light more efficiently than plants, and microbes grow faster than plants). Additionally, both the panels and the production facilities can be located more freely than crop cultivation; for example, drought or temperature are not as critical as they are in farming. This saves on arable land, which can then be used, for instance (in an optimal scenario), to increase biodiversity.

That being said, I am very skeptical about whether there will be sufficient demand for that product and whether production costs can be lowered enough. I just wanted to explain that potential benefit.

Holy hell, what a show in that thread. Give Eka a statue or something! Such diamond-grade stuff and shaking things up and best of all: despite his own sharp and provocative style, Eka is right again

Carry on, I’m enjoying this from the sidelines :victory_hand:

No reasoning provided, but the link below features “star stocks” from various countries selected by that account.

Well, you can get some ideas from this thread if you want to pick stocks from different countries.

How many of you knew that sneakers have an active secondary market and that during the COVID craze, you could make over 1000% profit on the retail price? To me, the idea that any piece of clothing could have a value exceeding its utility or retail price feels completely bizarre. A shoe that was on sale brand new in 2018 is some kind of collector’s item  This boomer just can’t wrap his head around it. You can get a nice pair of sneakers or trainers new for fifty and up. Specialized sports shoes for orienteering or ski boots might be around a couple of hundred. But a sneaker for 1600.

There’s an opportunity for a small play there, as US stocks will likely be commission-free again on the upcoming Black Friday (22.11.).

Greetings! The Olympics are already over, but I found a chart from TS Lombard related to them (and the discussion about Finland’s poor performance) showing the connection between the growth in the number of Olympic medals and GDP. There too, the big ones dominate and the small ones struggle, which is understandable given that budgets for elite sports are at different levels. There’s the remedy for improving Finland’s medal haul: get the economy growing

Is the sluggishness of the Helsinki stock market also due to the fact that we were left without medals?

e. some really reliable-looking link: Do Summer Olympics (And Gold Medals) Matter To The Stock Market? The Results May Surprise You - SPDR S&P 500 (ARCA:SPY) - Benzinga

“Other than stocks with direct ties to the Olympic games, the stock market sees little correlation between the games and price action. The country that wins the most countries often doesn’t see a material impact from taking the top honors.”

Talenom, the Kamux of accounting firms!
I’m not going to mimic the model portfolio, even though I know from experience that accounting firms also know how to bill for their own services well!

There is one quite essential difference between these

Another difference is that Inderes has also managed to be on the reduce side with Talenom at times

Yeah, for Talenom, that flatlining is only just beginning…
Kamux wallowing more than 40% below the IPO price is really ugly and unpleasant.
Even Kalliokoski bought some shares out of pity… Same with Pajuharju, a modest sum considering his income.

If there’s no activity in Helsinki, then the headlines are quiet too, if there’s nothing else “headline-worthy” in Finland besides the plotlines of Salatut elämät (Secret Lives) this is a highlight from 7päivää magazine :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m sure they have, at least the jury. Additionally, according to news reports, it’s pretty much sold out in stores, and those who bought it have hardly stored it all for the future.
