The major shareholders have blessed this failed strategy and the burning of money for nearly a decade now, so I wouldn’t expect a major change from that direction. It’s worth understanding that Ilkka’s largest owners have themselves been completely clueless about the digital transition of media and have mainly invested in the paper newspaper business in dying provinces. There haven’t been any great visionaries there who would have been able to anticipate technological development and changes in consumer behavior.
Ilkka’s problem isn’t just the CEO or the strategy, but also the board, the supervisory board, and the shareholders. No one seems to have the courage to put a stop to this negative trend.
