I’m such a big Airbnb fan that I’ll probably have to buy shares almost at any price I’ve stayed in Airbnb places in over ten countries and I just keep getting more and more excited about the company
I didn’t even know Airbnb was going public; I’ve used their service a lot over the years when traveling. I could even say I’m a fan too
I’m just wondering, now that the corona has hit the business, what kind of valuation will the offering get? Now might actually be a good opportunity to get in a bit cheaper, as the cost structure is such that Airbnb has been able to zero out costs quite well, since they don’t own properties anyway..
Really interesting, maybe someone here who knows more about the offering would be happy to share information
Very interesting IPO info, I’m strongly considering investing in this. I might wait until early next year to buy, after seeing how the share price and trading volume develop for a bit.
I used the same tactic with Siemens Energy, and so far I’m quite happy with it. The plan is to hold for a long time, and I believe Airbnb would fall into the same “holdable” category in my portfolio. Maybe not quite for decades like Siemens, but probably for years nonetheless.
Revenue was about 4.6 billion in 2019, and that figure is expected to decrease this year due to the coronavirus. With a listing valuation of 22 billion, the P/S ratio is around 5 based on 2019 figures. Operations are not profitable. Growth has been strong until 2019.
I would personally consider whether one believes in a strong travel boom in the coming years. Everyone’s guess is probably equally good here.
And what kind of profitability will be achieved and when, is difficult to estimate without knowing more details.
Airbnb is indeed a dominant player; I’ve used it dozens of times myself, so I really like the company.
I was immediately interested when I read about it in early autumn. My guess is that the travel industry will quickly start rolling as soon as restrictions are lifted at some point. Everyone has canceled and postponed trips that they need to make as soon as possible.
Airbnb is a great concept and I need to keep an eye on whether it’s possible to get in cheaply at the beginning.
I wonder how large a portion of Airbnb rentals go to business travelers? I have a hunch that business travel will permanently decrease due to this Corona. I don’t know if this has any bearing on this case.
Booking.com’s market cap is currently around 80 billion.
Airbnb has a stronger brand, and I’d be surprised if Airbnb could be bought for under a 40 billion market cap.
I was wondering the same thing, where can one buy these, or is it that one can only participate in these North American IPOs through US brokers? Does anyone know? I have no prior experience with these.
US IPOs work like this: the organizing banks offer shares to a) friends / best customers b) friends of friends c) even dog walkers. The rest of us then buy in at a +120% increase on the first day of trading.
I also got interested. I believe that in the future, the popularity of hotels in tourism will decline compared to traditional ones, and Airbnb already has a stable position. I’ll have to start doing some research.
Based on conversations within my own circle of friends, I believe travel will be really, really popular as soon as it becomes possible. I have the same thought myself; as soon as it’s possible, I’d like to travel halfway around the world.
