2023's Flop 3 with explanations

  1. Faron
    Bexmab’s good preliminary results were just a statistical anomaly, and the entire blood cancer segment has to be shut down as non-functional. No partnership deal is in sight, and the 150M funding required for the next trials will have to be sought through a share issue, diluting the stakes of current owners.

  2. Herantis
    HER-096 did not cross the blood-brain barrier in human trials, and they have to start over with a nanoformulated candidate administered via the nasal epithelium. They will need to raise more money through a share issue, and Phase I results will be pushed back by at least a year.

  3. Optomed
    FDA approval is delayed and requires further clarification. At the same time, a new COVID wave in China, triggered by the lifting of lockdowns, shuts down factories again and once more complicates the sourcing of components and the sale of devices.
