Energy Crises in Finland and Europe

I don’t know if you intentionally misrepresented the Bloomberg news by omitting what it was actually about. The news was about one wind turbine manufacturer, Siemens Energy’s problematic Spanish unit Gamesa, which has had severe quality issues in its production.

As for wind power investments. They continue at record levels where it makes sense to build more — also here in Finland. Inflation and the higher cost of financing affect all investments in Europe, including wind power investments.

In Finland, estimates for this year’s construction pace vary. After last year’s record of over 2,000 MW of additional construction, various estimates predict an addition of 1,000 MW–2,000 MW in wind power capacity for this year. Last year, many projects were completed ahead of schedule, which meant that approximately 600 MW of projects previously estimated to be completed this year were finished as early as 2022. The additional construction of wind power this year will be a decisive factor for both the energy crisis and Finland’s self-sufficiency in electricity production.

There is nothing wrong with opposing wind power. To the extent that opinions on it do not concern the European energy crisis, wind power could be discussed more broadly in, for example, the Technological development and investment opportunities in the energy sector thread.
