When I watched a gameplay clip of Control Resonant, the combat system somehow seemed a bit bland, like “basic button-mashing,” and it didn’t really appeal to me :thinking: At least in that fairly short clip, it looked like a style of hitting button X a couple of times, dodging, hitting the same button again, and dodging… Who knows what it’ll be like in the end :man_shrugging:

I don’t know about that, but at least an estimated 700,000 Steam players have been interested enough in Resonant, based on what’s been seen so far, to wishlist the game before its known release date. This number does not include console wishlist estimates.

Of course, these won’t convert to sales without a successful game.

The Galaxies show doesn’t quite hit the mark for this :smiley: But it’s quite funny that today was rumored for the release date trailer, but at a Sony show, which isn’t happening after all. It’s not certain we’ll get it today, either… Plus, today is Xbox’s Metro event, so it’s a popular date.

Good find.

Remedy’s own YouTube channel has 150k subscribers vs. Galaxies’ 3.5k. And then they go and dilute the attention, when their own event or even a trailer with a countdown would build up anticipation for the reveal and there would be no need to dilute the attention.

It is also possible that they will do what they did with Firebreak, dropping a short teaser at the event about an upcoming date/their own event, where the reveal date/preorder is finally announced. This is the only scenario I accept on some level, although I still don’t understand why.

Well, in just over half a day we might see what happened - if anything.

Is there some assumption in the industry that you can’t make announcements on your own YouTube channel, but they always have to be in connection with some event? On the Galaxies Showcase YouTube channel, the FBC trailer has 4.2k views, whereas on Remedy’s own channel, it has 66k. Of course, the number of live viewers is perhaps more relevant in this case, but there hasn’t been any hype for this showcase anywhere—not even on Remedy’s own social media accounts.

I suppose one could throw in the “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?” anecdote here.

It looks like Sony’s State of Play and the Resonant news will be for next week then, if they are coming at all. There were rumors about AC: Black Flag remake news for today, and I wonder if that’s where those State of Play rumors originated. Today, however, according to other rumors, was only the media event for Black Flag, with the reveal to the general public not coming until next week. Perhaps it will be in the State of Play then. We should get information about this SoP in the first half of next week, if one is indeed coming.

According to the same rumors, that Black Flag release date would be July 9, 2026, meaning if Resonant were to come out in late June, another big Assassin’s Creed game would land right next to it, which might not be good news for Resonant. It’s starting to look strongly like an August release.

Regarding the Resonant news, it’s also hard to see Kasurinen being sent to Gamescom Latam right after May Day just to talk about 3-6 month old gameplay clips for no reason. A brand director can’t really just leave their core work to start marketing unless there is something concrete to market (=buy). The most logical thing would be that by Gamescom Latam, the game has a release date and is available for pre-order.

This encapsulates the problem with Control: it is NOT a big game itself, even though forecasts and the stock pricing demand a mega-hit.

Social media buzz is subdued and even the gameplay videos don’t seem to evoke any reaction one way or the other - it seems like a mediocre game, and all reactions are lacking that real “must play” excitement.

It’s worth keeping in mind that “A game company is only as good as its last released game,” and Remedy’s previous release wasn’t a very convincing performance, as what was apparently a multiplayer game has now finally emerged as a single-player game:

It seems more or less certain now that we won’t hear anything about Resonant before the May Day holiday and Gamescom Latam (April 29 – May 3). State of Play rumors died down, and Ubisoft is holding its own reveal event for the Black Flag remake this Thursday.

On the Gamescom Latam homepage, the Remedy/Resonant event on the main stage has been highlighted as one of the top news items.

The studio will host a fireside chat on the main stage led by Mikael Kasurinen, Creative Director of CONTROL Resonant and Co-Creative Director at Remedy Entertainment, on Friday, 1 May at 5 PM (BRT) / 4 PM (ET) / 9 PM (BST), streamed live on the event’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.

During the panel, new details about the game will be revealed, including its concept, setting, and development. Following the fireside chat, the Remedy team will host meet-and-greet sessions with fans. Additional fan activities are also planned for Saturday, 2 May. At the event, attendees can visit a themed CONTROL Resonant area with a dedicated photo opportunity.

If there is any news regarding a release date or pre-orders, it will likely be in the streams mentioned above, since they wanted to highlight this specifically. So, on May Day, May 1st at 11:00 PM Finnish time, if I converted it correctly.

Why Brazil and Gamescom?

Matthew Ball’s 2026 report shows that in Brazil, the PC/Console market is growing 6% YoY, while 73–80% of the adult population plays regularly (!).

Gamescom Latam is a surprisingly large event, though of course it pales in comparison to Geoff Keighley’s events or Gamescom Cologne. Last year’s event reached over 130k visitors and over 10M players online.

It might be a good move if they manage to be the center of attention at a smaller event like this, potentially gaining media coverage for a few days compared to, for example, a pre-order trailer in a State of Play or similar, where it would be just one trailer among many.

Time will tell.

Control has now been released on a platform with hundreds of millions of users! Specifically, the game is now out on Apple mobile devices.

You probably shouldn’t expect this to move the needle at all regarding the company’s financial results.

Newly released sales figures obtained by Appfigures and first reported on by Mobile Gamer, show that impressive iPhone ports of Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil 8, Death Stranding, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage, barely cracked a few thousand downloads each.

Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil 8 sold 7,000 and 5,750 copies respectively, according to Mobile Gamer. Assassin’s Creed Mirage moved under 3,000 units. The iOS port of Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding fared the best on Apple’s App Store, earning 10,600 downloads since its release back in January.

But it’s quite positive that the game is being pushed out on all possible platforms while simultaneously gathering experience and data. It was likely achieved with fairly minimal effort.

Full-priced AAA games on phones played with controllers is such an absurd concept that it’s no wonder the RE4 Remake and similar titles didn’t sell much at all. Regarding Control, for the same €6 price, you get the iPhone, iPad, and Mac versions. I think it’s good to see these ports. I’m certain that the importance of Apple products in gaming will continue to grow. Chips are much more powerful than before, and the next Apple TV will likely be able to run AAA games, bringing a console-like experience directly to millions of devices.

And Control is also featured quite prominently on the iPad Air marketing page, for example. If I remember correctly, even the macOS version received quite a bit of marketing visibility directly from Apple, so it’s possible that Apple has also provided funding for their development.

Incidentally, Apple’s film and television production company, Apple Studios, has collaborated with Annapurna Pictures on the horror-fantasy series The Changeling. If this were 2021, it would be tempting to speculate enthusiastically that Remedy could be an attractive acquisition target for Apple in the field of multi-channel entertainment production. In reality, the circles of those production companies are probably quite small, and everyone works with everyone else to some extent. It seems Annapurna doesn’t have any other Apple TV deals. :slight_smile:

This shareholder is pleased with the notice of the general meeting. I have complained about the provincial nature of both the management team and the board. The CEO was already replaced by an international one, but now the board is getting some international boost too :+1:

He is currently a board member of TruFin plc, Playstack Ltd, and Consiliario Ltd. Previously, he served as the CEO of the French listed game publisher Focus Entertainment, and before that as the Managing Director / Head of International at ZeniMax Europe Limited (Bethesda Softworks) for over 14 years. In this role, he was responsible for establishing the company’s international publishing business and managing all international offices (EMEA, Asia Pacific, LATAM). He has also held leadership positions at Blast Entertainment (CEO), Virgin Interactive Entertainment (Chief Operating Officer, COO), Mirrorsoft (Global Sales and Marketing Director), and BT/Telecomsoft (UK Sales Director). Sean studied French and Politics at the University of Leicester from 1980 to 1983. He graduated with an Upper Second Class degree, and prior to this, he studied at Bishop Wulstan High School in Rugby.

Well, at least someone has bought Control. It’s in quite good positions in several markets. I don’t know anything about the volumes. Here are the US App Store Top paid games.

Apple is probably heavily involved in promoting its own hardware and AAA ecosystem here. I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple subsidized this Control port in one way or another. At least with technical support and visibility.

It’s still holding strong at #4 heading into the weekend. This probably won’t move the needle much for the company as a whole unless it stays in the top spots for a longer time, but it will likely show in Control’s sales for the game itself.

If Gemini and ChatGPT can be trusted at all, then a 3rd-4th place ranking in the top paid games category means approximately 15,000 - 35,000 units sold per day. This is for the US store. When you include the rest of the world, it can quickly add up to a pretty decent sum.

Sure, but let’s put things into a bit more perspective. If Gamalytic is to be believed, every Steam sale seems to bring in about 50k additional copies at the same cheap price point currently on the App Store.

The game stayed in the TOP 5 for a few days but has already slipped to 6th place, even though Apple is giving it a big feature. In other words, roughly speaking, this will sell about as much as 1–3 Steam sale campaigns during its launch window.

This will definitely be visible in Control’s game-specific sales on a quarterly level, but it won’t really impact the overall quarterly figures significantly. Of course, since Remedy receives 100% of net sales after distribution costs, the bottom-line impact is certainly nice, but in practice, this won’t show up in the income statement as Resonant’s marketing investments will weigh down the bottom line.

Of course, if Resonant succeeds, other backlog games will surely see some degree of a boost, which flows to the bottom line with a good margin. Still, in the big picture, the entire company’s future and the investor’s bread and butter remain 100% dependent on the success of Resonant, in which I personally still believe.

Here is Atte’s preview as Remedy reports its results on Tuesday, May 5. :slight_smile:

We expect Remedy’s Q1 revenue to have decreased from the comparison period and the result to have been clearly in the red, as the quarter falls into a quiet phase before the year’s most critical event, the release of Control Resonant. In the report, the main focus will be on comments regarding the status of the upcoming game release, as well as the first impressions of the new CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon, who started in March, at the helm of the company. Any potential additional information on other game projects is also always of interest.
