There is a fairly strong probability that Nordea will also end up paying a new bank tax after the Swedish elections this autumn.
The amount would be determined based on “excess profits”; money exceeding the profit levels of 2018-2022. If this were to be company-specific, it would be problematic for Nordea, considering its weak performance in those past years. Proponents of the tax point to the higher interest rate levels compared to previous years (even though they have come down from the peak).
The goal is to collect about one billion euros, if the models of the various parties are merged. Let’s see—and it is for reasons like these that Nordea moved its headquarters away from Stockholm.
