Q&A on Investing

I’ll reply one more time @anon79033325, since you mentioned you’re a new member. My blood pressure has already had time to go down  (joke, fortunately it’s naturally low). The main reason why “yes-it-is, no-it-isn’t” bickering is moved out of company threads is to prevent spamming. We also have to think about future readers who want to read the thread from start to finish, and that task is very difficult if there are dozens of messages on the same topic. Additionally, company threads are followed by thousands of people, and every time a new message appears in the thread, they get a notification if they’ve put the thread on their watchlist. These practices have been shaped over the years and found to be effective; as a new member, you couldn’t have known this.

The primary source of information regarding company matters is always the company’s own releases and their IR. There seems to have been a lot of waffling there in recent days regarding dividend payments, and my educated guess is that the matter is being resolved behind the scenes with the company, Euroclear, and brokers. Personally, I assume the company will still publish a release or provide information on their website once final certainty on the matter is obtained. There is really nothing we can do about it before then. I do understand if your rent payment depends on dividends arriving in full in your account on the agreed date. Otherwise, the matter is not the end of the world, and yesterday would have been a great opportunity to get rid of shares potentially bought based on incorrect information, as the price hit €8.45; also, assuming the dividend was certain, the level of €7.96 at the latest after the ex-dividend date was a pretty good buying spot. I don’t mean to defend the company, and I trust that we will hear more about this one way or another. If private investors end up not receiving their dividends, one possibility is to try to initiate a collective case through the Finnish Shareholders Federation (Osakesäästäjät).

The core idea of the Inderes forum is fundamental analysis, though there are also several threads for trading and technical analysis. In those, you can ponder the intricacies of short-term trading; if you are an investor building a long-term portfolio, it’s not worth chasing dividends—i.e., maneuvering based on ex-dividend dates—it rarely pays off when the investment horizon is long.

Apparently, @Karo_Hamalainen has also raised the issue on Twitter (now X); I can’t link his thread right now, but you can find it yourself

Let’s add a link to the forum rules: Sijoitusfoorumin säännöt (FAQ/Guidelines) - Sijoittaminen - Inderes forum
