Christmas is a time for the joy of giving, and what better way to spread it than by supporting those in need. This year, too, we here on the forum can together help those who need assistance and encourage others to help as well.
Have you already donated or found a cause you want to highlight? Tell others about it in a pleasant Christmas spirit. Every encouraging tip can inspire others to help.
Together we can spread the warmth and joy of Christmas - every euro counts.
Let’s give a Christmas gift to those who need and deserve it.
Inspired by Mikael, I immediately donated again to our own fundraiser. Feel free to participate, maybe we can reach our goal.
Thanks to all participants and happy holidays to everyone!
The Hyvä Joulumieli (Good Christmas Spirit) collection acquires food gift cards for low-income families with children in Finland.
The gift card is intended for food items, which may include individual household items (e.g., baking paper or a pack of diapers). The card cannot be used to purchase tobacco or alcohol.
In 2024, there are two types of gift cards available: Keskola and the Lidl chain each have their own plastic card. The card and its accompanying letter indicate which store group’s stores the gift card is valid in. The gift card can be used in any store of the respective grocery chain in Finland. The gift card does not need to be used in a single purchase.
Donated to the Hyvä Joulumieli campaign. All children here in Finland should certainly have at least some kind of Christmas! If one can buy stocks, one can also support the less fortunate with a small sum.
I donated a small sum in the eJoulupuu collection to a city where there were only a few donations. This year, it was hard to find gift wish trees in the nearest shopping centers.
The cities that have received the fewest donations can be found on this page. eJoulupuu
If anyone, like our household, has a few pennies to spare for the Cats’ Disaster Association, now is the right time to help. Here’s a quote from the association’s FB page (from which the attached picture is also taken):
IN DISTRESS
We are always tight on money, but now a difficult situation is approaching. Our fundraising permit will likely expire at the beginning of 2025! There has never been anything to complain about in our accounts, so that’s not the problem. But: a new permit was applied for from the National Police Board (in our opinion) well in advance in July. Then we heard that case processing is congested, and the processing time for permits is about 7 months. Our permit application will be stuck in the wheels of bureaucracy for perhaps another two months. And now we are distressed.
A large part of our income comes from donations, even though we also organize all kinds of events ourselves. We currently have a total of 58 cats in our care at our premises and foster homes. Their care must be secured one way or another through the transition period until we can again place collection boxes and appeal online.
We ask you to support us until the end of the year so that we can care for the cats in our custody through the transition period. We cannot take in new ones in this situation, even if there is a need.
Our collection account number is FI93 5730 0820 3289 34, reference 2215, and MobilePay 67708. Text messages: message KKY5, KKY10 or KKY20 to number 16155.
The number of our fundraising permit expiring at the end of the year is RA/2019/1078 29.11.2019 Central Finland Police Department
You can also become a member by filling out the form https://kky-ry.fi/auta-meita-auttamaan/liity-jaseneksi/ Before Christmas, we will also have a sales table at the Westeri shopping center, and this will be announced later.
My own cats were also adopted from a similar association in Norway back in the day. A lot of important volunteer work is done in these (associations), and there is always a shortage of money due to vet fees etc. Bank transfer made, and I challenge other cat people to support local associations as well
As a fan of efficiency, I do this all year round: I watch ads on the Samsung Global Goals app (on my phone), and I get a cent or a few for each ad. I then donate them to different goals. It works well alongside household chores, for example, when emptying the dishwasher – just press for a new ad every now and then. I earn a few tens of euros this way per month, and now the total balance was 1769.17e from a few years (started 5.2.21). This really doesn’t require my own money.
Then another one is kiva.org, where you can micro-lend a few euros to those who need it. Some have paid back, which I then lend forward again.
A strong recommendation to all forum colleagues to donate company and customer gift cards purchased from gift card stores to aid organizations. I myself have at least directed every Christmas gift and thank you to Hope ry, mental health, etc.
Many fundraisers take place at Christmas, and all mentioned here are worth supporting. I’m adding one more fundraiser here. It’s not strictly a Christmas fundraiser, but it’s just as important and necessary.
I challenge all supporters of Ukraine to donate to support Ukraine as they see fit. Every euro counts. You can choose from 5 different categories how your money will be used. Let’s do our part to make it possible for Ukraine to celebrate Christmas in peace in the future, without daily bombings.
I have long had a tradition of donating one month’s net salary to charity around Christmas time, usually on Christmas Eve. Additionally, I provide a small amount of support for junior football. This Christmas, the beneficiaries are:
So, this year:christmas_tree:, should we get another Christmas fundraiser or something similar going as a group? We’ve managed to do some pretty good work.
