IonQ - Pioneer of Quantum Computing Commercialization

Is it next expected that Zuckerberg will organize similar gatherings

With this writing, I want to tell you that IonQ is part of a broader center of expertise.
IonQ is a spin-off from the University of Maryland. The University of Maryland, its research park, and the private and public sectors form the foundation for IonQ to maintain its leadership in quantum computers in the future. In IonQ’s case, it’s not just about the intellectual capital of approximately 400 IonQ employees, but rather that IonQ is the visible sharp edge of the entire region’s intellectual capital. IonQ is a risky investment, but I want to take this investment risk because the upside bull case is enormous. Let’s briefly examine the bear scenario. So, how would IonQ’s story end and the company go bankrupt? That would happen if the entire region’s quantum buzz faded and federal research funds directed to the area dried up. And the condition for federal funding to end is that China and Russia 100% certainly stop their quantum research. I don’t believe this will happen, which is why I continue to take the IonQ risk. I will probably invest in IonQ as long as those two aforementioned countries are developing their own quantum things. So, it seems a rather long investment period is ahead.

The University of Maryland and the state also want to be the world’s leading center in quantum technology

There is probably some overlap here with things that have already been here.

The National Quantum Initiative, launched by the U.S. government, aims to ensure the country’s leadership in the field of quantum science and technology. The second revolution of quantum technologies enables new solutions for computing, networking, and sensing, advancing innovation, the economy, and national security.

The tweet below has more on the matter.

I didn’t know that Trump has “newly signed” quantum matters again.
The tweet above is a good reminder that quantum mechanics phenomena have long been part of familiar technologies:

-Global Positioning System (GPS) for navigation
-Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for medical imaging
-Semiconductors for computer chips
-Lasers for telecommunications

The current emergence of quantum computing offers many new opportunities for the benefit of us all.

IonQ received some design award. It doesn’t seem very significant, but the same news mentions “delivering 34 billion times more computational power than the nearest supercomputer”.

That 34 billion happens to be 2^35. I don’t know what is being compared here, but does the LinkedIn post hint that a 64 (or even more) algorithmic qubit Tempo quantum computer is already operating behind the scenes?

2025 is the year of 64 algorithmic qubits on IonQ’s roadmap, wasn’t it?

Great!

General Dynamics Information Technology. “This expanded partnership will enable us to harness the next generation of computational power to deliver innovative solutions that address critical mission needs.

and

IonQ’s Chief Revenue Officer. “This collaboration marks a significant step in delivering quantum solutions that address critical challenges faced by government agencies. It allows us to leverage our combined capabilities to introduce quantum computing to government and defense sectors, supporting high-priority projects. We are excited to work closely with and learn from the experts at GDIT.”

There’s no doubt which company is a pioneer in quantum applications. Of course, it depends on how you measure it, but for me, it’s enough to know that IonQ works with top global companies and key US security agencies.

When the results come out, the guidance for 2025 will probably be promising. Those projects aren’t done for free.

According to the tweet below, IonQ and Rocket Lab have long been sidelined as the market focused on tech giants playing with AI.

Now, interest is awakening in these slightly smaller players: quantum computing and space infrastructure are growing sectors, and both companies have secured significant contracts, especially in the defense sector.

IonQ’s quantum computers are already in use by major tech companies, and Rocket Lab is challenging SpaceX in space logistics. The stocks have “pulled back” after the initial excitement, but according to the tweeter, long-term trends support growth anyway.
