Over the past few years, I have started to become convinced that the “social media scene” will sooner or later be regulated with a fine-tooth comb. So many high-level experts have started speaking out on this matter, and as I understand it, research evidence regarding the harmfulness of certain social media practices is now also becoming compelling.
Those regulatory proposals have been quite interesting, but actually quite logical when you think about them more closely. Besides breaking up tech giants and imposing restrictions on data collection and utilization, regulations are being proposed for “infinite scrolling,” automatic video autoplay, content recommendations, notifications, etc.
In today’s world, these sound like amusing measures, but on the other hand, they are very logical when considered from the perspective of human behavior. And for example, Google’s Family Link app (and likely many others) already offers reasonable possibilities to regulate the aforementioned functionalities on one’s children’s phones to make them more brain-friendly.
I am currently looking forward to this book on the subject:
