In connection with Harvia’s listing, I was still able to buy shares with an employee discount at a price (4.5€), i.e., -10% off the listing price (5€). I decided to seize this opportunity, and if I remember correctly, the then CEO, Tapio Pajuharju, bought 20,000 shares, and the next largest subscription was by me from the production side, i.e., 17,777 shares.

Harvia’s listings are still visible, and I personally was at my best among the 30 largest owners in the then listing. Now, foreigners are also included, so the listing is partly different from what it used to be. The ownership of my entire family and the portfolios I managed was at its highest value a 7-digit number, where the first digit was not 1.

I haven’t been on the forum for very long, so this guy was a new acquaintance for me. Thanks to the rookie for sharing the story!

A great example of how, if you just live frugally, accumulate reasonable capital, and gain experience in investing, good things can happen at some point. Timo certainly had luck that his employer happened to be one of the most profitable companies on the Helsinki stock exchange, but without investment knowledge and experience, and previously accumulated capital, he surely wouldn’t have invested 80k in the employer’s IPO. A few years and a pot that changes your life. Wow!

At the same time, it’s also a reminder for us young people dreaming of getting rich that this is not a one or two-year project. Development, experience, and expertise come constantly, but the opportunity that blows up your bank account might only come, for example, 15 years from now. Even if you don’t get top returns this year or next, the main thing is that development happens. One Harvia moment somewhere in the distant future might still change everything, as long as you are ready to seize it.
