Inderes.fi content development ideas

Just some basic signature is what I was thinking. I doubt the idea will get much support beyond me and maybe a few others, but I was surprised it wasn’t in use on the forum when I made my return. I’d assume it’s only a Friday afternoon quick task once the beers are already cracking open in tech.

Preferably no signatures, just useless clutter between posts.

And the use case you mentioned is quite pointless, as giving investment advice is already prohibited by law, and on this forum the default assumption is—unless stated otherwise—that nothing is investment advice. And if someone claims otherwise, I believe that might even be against the forum rules?

In many forum softwares, users can decide whether to display other people’s signatures or not. I don’t know how it works on this platform. This is without taking a further stance on their necessity.

Could the sidebar scroll (or whatever it’s called) be changed so that it only takes into account the latest X number of messages?
Right now it’s pretty much unusable, as it’s very sensitive to movement.

Below is an example from two different threads; the age of the messages doesn’t matter, only the number of messages.

It would be nice to be able to more easily see whether a company under coverage has issued negative or positive profit warnings, for example, over the last couple of years, and when these were issued.

With the current layout of the company pages, you have to wade through them for quite a while to find this information unless you use a search engine or AI. This kind of summary could be added to reports in the same section as Inderes’ previous recommendations and target prices, or it could be visualized as a parameter for company filtering (e.g., positive profit warning within the last year or negative profit warning within the last year).

You’ve got a point. What if there was a third field along with the name and title where you could put maybe 128 characters or even 32  Customization behind a premium paywall, of course, as it should be in proper capitalism.

As I understand it, those are universal, so based on this feedback, we won’t be adding them for now. Technically it’s not a big task, but it adds a bit of noise between messages. Thanks for the suggestion anyway, @Jorma_Peras!

That is indeed a bit too sensitive in these threads with >1000 messages. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix available for that; of course, one option would be to limit the thread size to something smaller than the current 10,000.

Good point! We’ve had more detailed categorization of announcements on our backlog, as there are no ‘positives’ vs. ‘negatives’ in the metadata. It would definitely be a good idea to show those on the stock chart and similar views, for example. I’ll add this to my notes, thanks :folded_hands:

AI would likely sort the announcements into categories quite handily if you define the categories well for it. Additionally, it could be instructed to sort an announcement into the most probable category if it’s less than 90% certain, but flag it for a human to review  Using the same technique, it would probably be quite easy to process insider buy/sell announcements to separate out purchases made with “cold hard cash”

Yes, that’s the idea  It already works that way for insider buys, but we still need to expand it to other categories.

@Verneri_Pulkkinen

In the latest Vartti, ”Trump’s first year has been glorious for stocks,” there has been some criticism in the comments regarding the claims you presented and other ways of expressing things related to U.S. politics. Have these occurred before? How do you feel about such comments regarding ”bias” or ”acting as a CNN sub-channel”? Do you intend to react to this kind of feedback in any way? Has this communication been successful if it irritates a portion of the viewers?

Hi @Miikka_Laitila and other Inderes content developers, great job on the robocomments and other things on the site. I’m asking out of interest: What kind of software and architecture do you use to create Inderes’ robocomments?

It happens every now and then, and apparently, a few comments flared up again now.

I don’t call Trump names, and I strive to present his (economic) policy as objectively as possible. I fundamentally avoid politics in the Vartti episodes, but I address it when and to the extent that it matters for the stock markets.

People are entitled to their own opinions, but in my view, stating that Trump’s actions are to some extent authoritarian is not ”acting as a branch of CNN” or leftist propaganda. Instead, I wonder what kind of worldview those comments actually stem from. Those are fairly common rhetorical weapons…

I also don’t think I react to Trump’s actions with outrage. He operates in his own way, but he’s not that extraordinary. I also highlight many of his policy moves that are very positive for stocks.

Sometimes I reply to comments if I come up with something witty.

People are very sensitive these days. I can’t help it if anything other than praise gets under the skin of some Trump supporters. I wonder why they are allowed to insult and criticize others, but if they hear one annoying word, the reaction is like that of a two-year-old.

Isn’t Trumpism usually associated with masculine thick-skinnedness, rather than the crying of a professional footballer and demanding red cards when a breeze from an opponent hits their knee and they throw themselves on the grass crying to the referee?

Maybe I irritate some of the viewers then, but they don’t have to watch my content.

Hi @Ghostrider, thanks for the feedback

The robo-comments have gone through a long development cycle, but I think they are finally starting to be genuinely good enough. Initially, we created certain constraints so that not all results would trigger a robo-comment, but in the upcoming earnings season, they will be automatically generated for over 90% of the results.

Below is a brief history and background:

  • 2019: Original comments with Regex logic? A long time ago, they weren’t good enough - idea shelved.
  • H2/24: Idea off the shelf for testing. First LLM version with a manual workflow and OpenAI’s o1; promising, but not good enough.
  • H1/25: Process automation, guardrails, adjustment of content, prompts, and logic, and the adoption of o3: closer to the current structure, but still some hallucination and inaccuracy.
  • H2/25: Current model: Claude Sonnet in use, with a structure of multiple AI calls; one checks if the release is an earnings announcement, the second establishes expectations from the analyst’s preview comment, the third fetches figures for the initial table, the fourth writes how expectations and results compare, the fifth searches the release for reasons behind beats/misses…

I think the robo-comments are 80-90% finished, where new improvements won’t bring dramatic added value. Of course, there are occasionally small logic errors in the explanations, but the figures and the general pulse should be in order. For this reason, the plan is now to monitor usage and feedback and improve based on that. So all comments here or in the form are very welcome

The TOP 3 gainers/losers on the front page could have a toggle for the OMXH Main List, FN, or all Finnish stocks, for example. Maybe the most traded stocks alongside them?

Currently, the TOP 3 in both directions is often filled with various hype and crisis companies, and info like Kalmar’s +5.55% change has to be looked up in the portfolio or on Kauppalehti’s pages. Also, expanding the TOP 3 to, say, TOP 5-6 could work.

One broader idea could be making the front page more personalized, so I could choose to see, for example, the TOP 10 gainers/losers and most traded, announcements from companies I follow, and Donald Trump’s latest golf score. And someone else could then pick different things from the available data.

As a long-time KL browser, I miss that broader view.

AND an EDIT for the evening: It’s worth it for others to add companies to their watchlist too, then “presto!” there they are on the front page with the day’s prices.

Now just those Trump golf scores and I’ll have all the necessary information as an investor. Thanks.

Apparently, the forum software developers are now actively investigating how to get all the hearts visible again

Thanks for the feedback @Addick! Yeah, we’ve been thinking about that ourselves, and the plan is to enable lighter customization of the table. On the other hand, there’s also a slightly more extensive “my companies” page / earnings season dashboard on the drawing board, so we’ll see what we bring to the front page and what goes on the more comprehensive personal page.

Exactly! It’s worth following interesting companies so you can stay up to date with the latest content and price movements

Yep, it’s nice that they are listening to users too :tada: So, let’s wait for the new version!

Verneri already shared our morning discussion in the Coffee Room, here are the latest updates in video format!

Feel free to share any requests or feedback in this thread

This week, I would have missed many investment-themed podcasts and videos if I hadn’t followed the discussion in the Coffee Room. In fact, I can’t find a few videos at all anymore; I didn’t have time to start listening, I don’t remember the poster, and I didn’t hit like.

I see room for improvement in my own habits as well, but would it be a good idea to merge the podcast and investment video threads so that the materials would more likely find their way there?

It would also work for me if the mods moved the materials from the Coffee Room to the current threads after, say, 1–2 days.
