German supply chain manufacturer KION issued a profit warning and opened -15% on the market.

The weak performance of the Warehouse Automation division is precisely what’s behind this. Cost inflation in materials, wages, and supply chains, component availability, and labor constraints, especially in the United States, are weighing down Q3 EBIT, leading to a loss of EUR 100 million. Orders are also clearly down in Q3 compared to a year ago, which is concerning as September has previously been an important month.

ABG sees a poor risk/reward ratio in AutoStore due to few positive drivers, continuously weakening gross margin, and declining order book growth. The company’s outlook and forecasts were lowered, and the target price was reduced to NOK 15 (16).

Autostore’s first multi-temperature grid. Next summer, we’ll probably hear how the robots perform in icy environments.

Oslo (Infront TDN Direkt): Autostore is reducing upfront payments for its technology to customers in an attempt to increase sales, and will continue its legal battle against Ocado.
This is what the Financial Times writes on Sunday after an interview with CEO Mars Hovland Vikse and his predecessor Karl Johan Lier.

AutoStore has introduced a new way for dealers to purchase its systems, which Vikse called “pay per pick”, in an effort to make it easier for businesses to invest by lowering the initial cost. Under the system, a retailer pays only for the automation infrastructure up front - about 20-30 percent of the usual total cost - and then pays for everything else including the robots, software and workstations each time they use it.

However, the two expect that the strong growth in warehouse automation will continue even if e-commerce sales stagnate.

-Even if e-commerce and global trade see a decline, we as consumers will still buy online, and companies will still invest in automation. Only 15-20 percent of warehouses globally have automation, Vikse said.

What’s the situation with Autostore? It’s very quiet in the thread.

It’s so quiet. There’s a small tracking position.

The resolution of the patent dispute agreed with Ocado in 2023 and the £200 million settlement payment is starting to be behind us.

A new business model where the buyer partially leases the warehouse and pays for its use is being launched.
